my buddy right here in Morgan cty went in and was scouting his land and found a trail camera and a tube feeder. He took them both.

A week later he was checking the same piece and decided to go look where the camera had been. Bingo ..another one! And a sign telling him he better put the other camera back and not steal this one or hed get his ass kicked.

Of course he grabbed that one too and left a note with his tel number that this was his land and they better call him right away.

Believe it or not they did. It was a neighbor on a 1/4 acre house lot bordering the land. My buddy hadnt hunted at all before , this was his first year there. My buddy told him to stay off and gave him his stuff back.

They didnt think anyone hunted and had been hunting there for years.

When he drove on the property the first time he and his brother decided to hunt, my other hunting buddy took went with them. They were driving down a road through their field...and here comes someone...mad as heck.

He was all in camo and laid a climber up against a tree.

he wanted to know What were they doing there? And that there was no hunting in there!

He was a little shocked when my friend said it was their land and that there is hunting in there now! and that they needed to keep off the place.

That was 2 different neighbors hunting on his farm.

Lesson is..if you arent there...someone is.

THIS...I am close enough to actively hear atv's and see hunters scouting a lot. We post it hard and we also have tons of people from our subdivision that tell us when people are there too. Our land, in fact surrounds the neighborhood.

There is only one road in to the subdivision so that helps too.

1st time we catch someone we take pics of him and his vehicle and are fairly polite while being firm.

2nd time we see someone we don't worry about being polite.

3rd time aint never happened yet...(2nd time aint fun for them at all)

A friend of mine from Camden owned a piece of property across the river from Lower Peachtree. We went down there to hunt one day and found some hunters standing in the road on his place shooting ducks at a pond beside the road. Buddy told he owned that land and they needed to leave....words escalated..they refused to leave...fists flew. They left. Amazing....

If a piece of land especially a larger area doesn't get hunted by the owner or by someone with a lease/permission for a lengthy period of time then you can nearly count on someone else being on it.

We gave them their stuff back. The guy asked us if we could show them the boundary, so we did. He was coming in off the county road and not from their property which would have had them come past the boundary line markers which were up and down the creek. It was two guy's stuff and them seemed genuine. We did not have anymore problems with those guys.....but seeing guys on atvs glassing clearcuts with their rifle while you are hunting it becomes a bit un nerving. They were on public road, so not technically trespassing.

Between these stories and the tread about someone stealing a culvert, I am now convinced SOME people in the south are indeed as stupid as people up north believe. We are not all that way, but apparently there are enough idiots around to make us sane people look bad.

Only two stories I have that compare to us is a guy who lives down the road from our northern pasture sold the turkey rights to our place to a guy from Pickens county. A couple of our members saw two guys walking out and asked them what they were doing. They all went to the guy who leased the place and he just laughed and said he didnt think we would find out. Those guys never got their money back.

Other one was this old dude who would ride his wagon (pulled by a donkey) through our place to go to town. It was a "shortcut" and it was hard to get the old guy to understand just because he had done it for the last 25 years that he couldnt do it anymore. We put up gates, he would take them down. We put up gates that he could not remove and he cut the locks off. It went on for a couple of years. Finally a little bridge over a creek washed out and that finally stopped him. After the old coot died we rebuilt the bridge...

I'd give them a fight and they'd never see me coming. I'd keep it at inanimate objects but I would not let them win no matter how far I had to go to win. Again, inanimate objects are fair game if they want to encroach on you.

I don't feel sorry for any bad guy and poaching is a sign of POS people!

I just laugh when I hear someone say "it hasn't been hunted in years". I then tell them there must not be a deer there because if there was, then it is being hunted. Maybe not legally, but it is being hunted.

I was on an "outfitter" hunt in Iowa several years ago and a local came in on us. Argued about whether we were supposed to be there. Had squirrel hunters around us another day. It was a farm that hadn't been hunted officially and everyone around just hunted it. It's just like these guys said. Someone is always hunting it. Once wrote a letter to an absentee landowner offering to lease their place. Got one back telling me they were on "the other side of the hunting issue." Everyone in the neighborhood was hunting it.

My worst tract for poaching is around my house. My wife doesn't want me hunting there. Occasionally I get a little help.

Went & parked next to a guy that was watching a power line that crosses the property, He was sitting in his truck on the ROW "eating his lunch". I asked what he was doing with a rifle beside him & asked him to "eat" elsewhere. He moved.

Found a stand & a corn pile in the same location a few years later. Left a note and took the stand. Have taken down several stands through the years but never had anyone call.

Yep. He thought they were "trespassing" on his hunting ground. This is about a 1000 acre piece that was not being hunted at all by the owners...and no permission to anyone.

When they told me noone hunted it..I laughed. I hear most of the shooting around us over there. The same kids were a problem on my land and my buddies too...but we ran them off. Cam stealing, stand stealing losers too I might add.

He didnt want any problems so they warned them off.

On the opener my buddy and I hunted near their line...and we saw 3 or four different lights from hunters coming from a sub division dropping down the hill.

They saw them too...and ended up chasing them all over on opening day. It ended up being the best opening morning I had here as I saw 21 deer from my am stand...all being pushed by them chasing the hunters on their Four wheeled gas powered utility vehicle .

They do not warn anyone any more. Especially as they put out Reconyx cameras and had the stolen. That will piss you off for sure.

I love the locals that think most everyone is weekend warriors and they can you your property during the week when your not there. When they come walking up to get in the shooting house and a 300 barrel with an orange hat is is staring them in the face they tend to have an oh chit moment. The look on their face is priceless or watching them rum like a ten yr old try to get the hell outta dodge
