No, well kind of. The last owner, Diane Smitherman, was trying to sell it. She actually had to change the name to the Restaurant On Grumble's Alley when she bought it from the Strickland's. They wanted to keep the name if they opened another place somewhere else. Anyways, Diane thought she had it sold so she closed it and the seller backed out. Diane then went down the street a block towards the bridge and opened Side Porch Sandwiches. It is the same basic menu as Grumbles without the big entrees. They are only opened during lunch so it is really mostly sandwiches, which are good. They are open on Fridays until about 8PM or so.

During the 1990 school protests I was assigned to protect Henry Pitts so I had to eat lunch every day with Mayor Smitherman, Diane's father, and Henry. After I realized this was going to be an everyday thing for awhile I decided to try a new sandwich every day. I made it through the menu with ease. My favorite was, and still is, the sausage/ pepperjack. Grilled sausage, pepperjack cheese with spicy mustard and pepper jelly. Sounds odd but is very tasty.

Lol, no it sounds good. Were rolling in tomorrow for the football game MA/Morgan and was looking for somewhere to eat before the game other than fastfood. Any ideas?

Henry needed you're protection from more than just the Dr Rousell ordeal. I was a 5th grader at meadowview elementary when all that went down. When the national guard showed up at school I thought the Russians were attacking. Red dawn was my favorite movie back in those days.

That is in ascending order of price and fanciness. All are good, just depends on what your looking for. Sandwiches, Side Porch, BBQ, Hancock's or Lannies 2, steak, hamburger steak, BBQ chicken, Golden Ranch, good steak, Tally Ho.

Closest to MA is Hancock's, but it doesn't seat many and you can count on a crowd. For something a little different with plenty of seating, I'd try Side Porch and get an idea of what Grumble's menu was like.

All that crap traumatized me, I can just imagine what it was like for the kids.

Yea it was like an extra spring break for us. Most of us were headed to west side middle but after that week Morgan was our only option. Rose and Hank were the instigators in that deal.

Tally Ho still open?

Yep. Had a very good blackened ribeye the other night. Bob Kelley retired but he gave it to his daughter, so it is the same as always. I don't think the menu has changed in 30 years.

Love the place. Used to start out at tally Ho. Then head to murrays/the swamp then end up at Charlie Browns/warrens. Damn those were the good ole days.

Dime beer until 9pm on wed nights at The Warehouse.

Back in the old days most of my paycheck went to pay my tab at the Ho. Boy, that doesn't sound good.
