So I bought this new grill at Wal-Mart this spring, the akorn, knock off green egg.I seasoned it first then of course have grilled plenty on it this summer. By far the best $200 ive spent on a grill. I've smoked slab of ribs and a quartered butt at one time with this thing holding temp without going out and add oute water down. So before spending $1000look into this Lil feller first.

Was it really only $200? That's a really good price for a ceramic grill! The only advantage I can see to bge is getting parts in 20 years.

If I'm not mistaken, the Akorn's aren't ceramic. They just look like ceramics and use air flow to manage temp control in the same way.

I have a BGE but saw a Akorn at Lowes last Saturday. It looks like a ceramic grill but appeared to be a weber like grill inside of a metal ceramic lookin shell. I guess it uses the same airflow principle and maybe that's why it cooks well. If I am not mistaken it is made by Kamado Joe.

Akorn is Imported from China by Chargriller, another grill company out of Georgia.

The 20" model is $288 at walmart now. You must have purchased on sale.
