Out of curiosity I bought one of these Wisdom Panel 2.5 DNA test kits for dogs off Amazon for about 60$. I swabbed his gums, and sent the swabs to the company about 3 weeks ago. They emailed me today with the results. I knew he was a mutt but damn is he mixed up. he's goofy though I'm glad I got him from the shelter. 1/4 bloodhound, and the rest is a mix of a bunch of other breeds. In the info they sent me it said the unnamed mixed breed ancestor was a mix of other types of dogs but probably mostly terrier. I don't know 100% how accurate any of this is but it makes sense looking at old boy. I would recommend this kit to anyone who is 60$ curious about what their dog is. I was 60$ curious, but i wouldn't have been 150$ or 200$ curious. They also informed me that he has a a mutation in the MDR1 gene, which apparently leads to sensitivity to several different drugs. They gave me a promo code for $15 off of another testing kit if anyone is interested in it. I only have one mutt at the moment. Let me know and I will send you the code. Aaron

The kit that AKC sent me. $50 and that covered postage. Nice looking dog.

AKC just made me do a DNA test kit on my lab because he is a frequent breeder. The AKC has been tightening up on this for the past few years. If your stud sires 3 or more litters a year or more than 7 in a lifetime they want the test done. If you have the dogs semen frozen it a must too. Which I can understand. They also require it for imported breeding stock, which is kind of strange IMO. The only thing you can tell from the test is parentage, and most European registries don't require the DNA, so the parentage of that dog can't be confirmed. Anyhow I'll just play the game with them.
