Just saw that report on WAFF here in Huntsville. What kind/type of jobs does google provide?

Be interesting to see how all those uber liberal , intellectuals fit in in North Jackson.

Going to be a good bit of opportunity for any licensed electrician in the area. My company currently has a trailer on a Google data center site up here. Absolutely crazy how much work is going on and how many guys are on site. Permanent jobs are going to be for computer programmers, a few maintenance electricians and plumbers, security guards (no cell phones or camera equipment allowed on site) and I'd assume some facility managers. Not much to them when they are operational but the facilities are going to be massive if it's anything like what is being built up here.

They gonna have to drive 40 miles to get a Starbucks.

... Also I believe they hire mostly if not all locals to run those places. Probably won't be too many transplants heading that way.

Not a lot of super high tech guru's in North Jackson County Alabama. I'm thinkin' other than support, maintenance, ground keepers and such they'll have to bring their own in. I hear it's only 75-100 total, so either way not alot of jobs. Not enough to offset the coal plant Obama's EPA regs is shutting down next door.

For the right money they'll probably get some smart folks from Atlanta to move (or commute).

I can see some TVA folks from Widows Creek probably lining up for some jobs. I can also see the IBEW rearing up to try and get their hooks in on the construction phase for the electrician positions and permanent maintenance positions. And Hwy 72 from Huntsville isn't a bad drive and that's where the programming gurus are.

I'm afraid they'll be pulling from Chattanooga as the skillsets in Jackson County does not align with data center needs and there will be very few jobs that carryover from the power plant operations as some folks are incorrectly assuming. On the same hand, majority of folks with applicable skills are already traveling to Huntsville or Chattanooga for work so though could cut the commute time down. Seeing how I travel from Sboro to Huntsville every day... definitely something I will send out some resumes for

I wont disagree with the part about the Jackson County folk, but I should have clarified my definition of locals. They will likely staff with AL, GA, or TN folks. As stated by others, it won't be a ton of jobs since they build those data centers to be pretty hands off. They will have a tech staff for issues plus maintenance folk and such but the construction of the place will employ a fair number of folks for sure.
