We were able to get seed in the ground yesterday. 100 pounds of round-up ready soybeans over a couple different plots (the one below plus another). We also did a couple very small plots where we threw our some bird seed (sunflower, millet, etc.) I've never wanted it to rain in north Alabama so bad in my life!

Hope they do well.

Just a little help... If you planted any where the grass is, you better get it sprayed.

I still have my camera over the Trophy Rock right now. Next trip up there I hope to move the camera up a tree and use Time Lapse for this plot.

I hope you made sure that bird seed didn't have thissel seed in it. If so you're in for a mess.

Went to check on the plots today. Not really knowing what to expect since this is my first attempt. I know the area has gotten good rain spaced over the last 3 weeks. I am very happy with the results. I put out Milorganite when I planted to help keep deer off until the plants could get established. Knew the smell of the Milorganite would be wearing off by now so I threw out another half bag per plot. Very little sign of browse, which as odd as this sounds, that's what I wanted the Milorganite to do. I also learned that I cannot spread seed evenly to save my life.

Good deal. I would keep the milorganite applied liberally. Once it wears off, they can decimate a plot in just a few short days. Some of these other guys may have good info on the size needed to "establish" the beans. I would think they'd need to reach 24" or so tall but that's nothing more than a guess. The root system needs to develop as much as possible to enable the plant to outgrow the browse pressure.

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if they are already hitting it and it's a small plot, they probably won't last long.
Normally, the first time they're planted, it takes the deer a while to find them. The second year they will wipe them out in short order unless it is a big plot or you do something to keep them out.
