The last 3 years on my lease the chestnut oaks get some type of disease where the leaves turn brown and fall off. The trees also produce very few acorns. It happens about this time every year and by bow season all the leaves will basically be off the trees.

I feel your pain brother. It looks to be some type of worm that is doin it. I've noticed it in Baldwin county and in Dallas county. It happened all of a sudden and I've never seen it before until last year. I wish there was something that could be done about it. I haven't been in the woods to check em this year yet but I bet it is happening again.

Ours produced some last year, and we had a bumper crop the year before that, haven't noticed any problems with them. Headed to the property later this week to do a few things, and checking those trees is already on the list. Hope I don't find any problems like you are describing, those trees are great places to hunt when those giant nuts start falling!

I haven't noticed ours being diseased, but keep in mind they don't produce acorns every year either. Once every 5 years or so if you're lucky. Great place to bow hunt when they drop if you can keep the turkeys away.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Yeah jawbone. I a have seen them take a couple years off in between crops but these trees look terrible and the leaves fall off before summer is even over. They haven't dropped good in about 6 years but it wasn't till about 3 years ago they got this disease or whatever it is. I have a friend that hunts 50 or so miles away and his are doing it too

Get off your azz and fertilize the trees now. Dig a hole every three feet and add a coffee can full of fertilizer. The results will amaze you. I love those trees I killed my first bow/doe chomping down on some. Oh dig the holes along the drip line.

Well, Ive done it with amazing results. Maybe you did it too late in the year.I did it during May, June and early July everytime the ground was covered with acorns. Maybe you didnt put enough fertilizer in each hole. Believe what you will.

Why did you dig a hole for your fertilzer?

Went to the property yesterday and checked a couple stands of chesnut oaks we have, they all looked good and healthy, although I didn't seen any nuts on them (using binocs). That's not unusual, they seem to only produce every 2 or 3 years. Also checked some of the other oaks, they seem to have some nuts, but not nearly as many as I have seen in the past. Certainly doesn't look like a bumper crop of acorns for the Fall down here.
