They use Jet A with additives the Air Force changed over to that from JP-8 couple years ago in the states anyway. Fuel Cost to fly one of those would be around 7-10 thousand dollars per flight depending on weather or not they have on externals or not. They don't hold very much fuel comparatively speaking.
Yep Mike, they converted us over to Jet AA about a year or so ago.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

JP8 gets used in most forward deployed areas and functions as a "universal" fuel, as it's formulated to work well in every environment from desert to polar regions. You can run everything from diesel trucks and generators to helicopters and jets on it. Basically everything except what needs gasoline.

Back in my F-4 days we planned on 1000 lbs for start, taxi and takeoff. High level flight we burned 100 lbs a minute. Low level we burned 300 lbs a minute. Afterburner was 3000 lbs a minute! The good news was you got where you were going really fast so you didn't use it very long.

It was really awsome...the last time we were able to make a beach trip, we went to mexico beach. Those 22's making approaches to tyndall were so low, you could see the pilots faces. We could hear them way offshore doing dogfights (maybe?)...and see the contrails while they were out there.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

lol there aint no telling them boys is a whole different breed...
Yep. The combination of intelligence, physical condition, hand/eye coordination and sheer nerve/swagger that it takes to fly a high performance fighter is a rare commodity. My oldest son is in Air Force UPT now. They have to fill out a "dream sheet" on what they want to fly, my suggestion was F22's. You'll be close to home, lol. I think he is leaning towards the bomber community. B-1's is his top choice right now.

I live next to Eglin AFB. Fighter jets take off all day and night here. Nothing new so I doubt it was a 'scramble'. If you want to see a scramble, should have been down here during 9/11. That was a month straight of scrambles. Hundreds of fighters in the air at once day and night.
