So if the chief of the Law Enforcement Section says no badges are given, then maybe it comes from higher up in the Department? Or isn't really a "badge" but a letter or some other kind of "honor" and he got a badge somewhere else?

Just for kicks, let's say FauxPoPo Stimson got a Conservation badge from somewhere. Those aren't mass produced, right? DCNR badges have specific wording and the Department logo on them. So if he did have a DCNR badge it would have had to come from someone.


Skinny, it's doubtful that anyone is going to come into Mungumry and invest in a newspaper there, unfortunately. There are big rumors about Gannett - the Agonizer's owner - making some sales of regional papers in a spinoff this summer of the print division from electronic, but I doubt they'd give up the papers because they still are the money-makers. Print makes money; websites do not.

back to original article...did a REAL GW Captain go to the scene and say Stimpson was not an employee, which he wasn't. But, according to Stimpson, he was a Deputy GW. Which any Mobile area Captain would of known.....

I wonder how much longer that will be the case. Secondary sources are already in a death spiral there is no way to pull out of. Gannett bought The Bulletin Board a few years ago and 6 years ago it was a weekly 220 page classified publication with 2/3
of it being paid advertisement. Today it is 70 pages. I haven't kept up with the industry since I got out 6 years ago but I just don't see how it
survives.

Unless he did a law enforcement act, they hit him with the wrong charge. The felony charge won't stick if the incident went as Stimpson said even without him being Deputized. He may have to pay a speeding ticket, but that is all.

I am almost certain that in the past badges were given out. It may have been a long time ago but I would bet someone in his family has been given one at some point. I have personally seen politicians with badges of one sort or another.

Years ago when I would get my pistol permit it had a sheriff star on it and it said reserve deputy on it.

Charlie, Daddy Stimpson was on the Conservation Advisory Board years ago and has been a muckety-muck among politics, Mobile and Alabama Wildlife Federation orgs, and DCNR folks for years. He may have obtained a badge years ago or knew how to get one.


Bill, newspapers will survive in some form even if the "daily" ones only print three days a week like the state's media group. The ones printing money now have to be the weekly papers. They're not, far as I can tell, as robust as years ago when you and I were among the inky wretches but they're still pretty strong. The daily papers are the ones hit hardest IMO by the Interwebz.

Citizen Game Warden badges have been given out for years, to individuals for specific properties. My father had one back in the 80's. There are also some private wardens that are fully deputized within the confines of their employers acreage. Political or not, they exist.
