Any recommendations on a good one.
I was looking at White Mountain but looks like their quality has really dropped off.

I have found nothing locally. Wife bought a small, cheap one from Walmart this weekend and was not impressed. Tractor Supply had a very large(I think 6 qt) for $99, but did not want to spend that much money.

I have a White Mountain electric and love it. It's an older one though.

White Mountain is now owned by Rival and they are apparently producing junk.

Have you looked at Ebay for an older White Mountain?

2 quarts wouldn't get me past my first serving.

2 quarts every 25 minutes ain't a bad deal. I made 4 quarts Monday and it took an hour and 15 minutes for it to freeze.

The 25 minute turn around is nice but you can't put anything bigger than chocolate chips in there and you have to pre-freeze the bowl thingy.
I might just pick up that one from BBB

Understand. I was in a hurry Monday and I bought one of the Oster's with the wooden tub at walmart for $39. It's just a 4 qt.

Bass Pro sells a nice wooden one which can be used by either hand crank or electric motor.

I've used mine now about 4 times and I'm happy with the 4 qt nostalgia model from BBB.
Did 2 soda recipes, vanilla , and strawberry. Last 2 were best imo.

Family of 4 with 2 small kids. Made plenty. Find the vanilla recipie with medium amount of heavy cream.

What y'all makin?

I have one with two bowls - it is outstanding. I highly recommend it. If it is just me and my wife - I make 2-quarts. If we are having others over - I make both bowls.

You will want to freeze them to sub-zero for better results.

I picked up one of these barely-used locally for $25 the other day.

http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-ICE-45-Serve-2-Quart-Cream/dp/B000F94GPQ

Took it all apart and sterilized everything in the dish washer, then froze the drum. So far we've made sorbet and ice cream. It'll freeze ice cream in under 20 minutes easily, you just need to make sure the ingredients are refrigerated first for best results and quick freezing.

We are just making small batches and this thing is awesome for the 4 of us. We have a 4qt regular ice cream freezer and never get it out because of the amount you have to make, clean up, dealing with ice/salt, and the time it takes. We will still use it for bigger batches, but that's once a year. The Cuisinart is excellent for making fresh ice cream for dessert on a regular basis.

We did a batch of homemade vanilla the other night and still had about half left over. I put it in a glass bowl with a lid and put it in the freezer overnight. It set up nice and still tastes great a few days later.

I have the one that Bed Bath and Beyond sells that is wooden on the outside with plastic bucket liner on inside, makes a gallon. Had it for 6 years and never one problem with it. Makes good ice cream and easy to clean up.

Just made some homemade peach this weekend and it was awesome. Easiest non-cook recipe I have ever tried and everyone loved it.
