nematodes...it is applied in the ground with the seeds and keep nematodes at bay in the root system

when i left the farm in '97, we were required to use lock-n-load jugs that kept you from having any contact with it. when i was much younger and tended the planting trailer, we measured it out with a big measuring cup by hand. common handling practices dictate washing hands after any chemical handling, so unless you're using it off label, away from a water source, and mindlessly lick you fingers after dosing a hotdog wienie you'll live to breathe another day.

it is also used in the pecan orchard industry (maybe fruits, too, but no experience to speak from there) during fertilization for the same purpose.

Thanks for the answers guys. I figured there had to be some logical purpose to this stuff. Learn something new every day.

I used to clean my planter out every Am and would get Temik all over my hands. First step was to get fast orange and water and wash it off. At the end of planting season the 3 of us that ran planter tractors would feel lethargic and sick. The stuff will get you down but you have to ingest it to kill you. I watched the boys I planted with eat their pickled pigs feet without washing up though. Not no way in hell would I have done that.

Wonder how many coyotes they killed when they did it?
Fred, tell the story of your neighbor. I've never used it, but a guy at work seems knowledgeable about it. Scares me!

Read the label. You don't have to ingest it. I know firsthand. If it gets into your blood stream by any means, is ingested, absorbed through a mucus membrane, or through the skin with a catalyst such as oil or water, it will make you sick or kill you. I'm the member yotetrapper was referring to that took a little ambulance ride after absorbing it through abrasions on my hands after getting saliva from my dead dog in the wounds while trying to save him.

Yea it will just not as lethal as quick by cuts. Did you read the part where I said we felt sick all season? I cut my hands on the planters I'm sure that's where it got in but I was quick to wash down. It's nothing to take lightly.

Yeah I saw it. If you would have had a catalyst to get it through your skin you'd have been a lot more than lethargic. It's bad stuff. I thought I was going to die.

I have worked in around peanut fields at the time of Temik treatments and always ended the day feeling ill and just "off". Temik though has recently been banned for use in the US I think by 2016-17, and Bayer has already stopped production of it cause the lawsuits are more expensive than the profits they get from it.

my neighbor was mixing it in hamburger meat to kill neighborhood cats. Killed one of mine and two kittens right in front of the two little girls that had them, called them into his yard and fed em timic laced meat. Absorbed thru the skin, no gloves shocked dead in a month of complete, total failure of all organs.

Of course my theory on this is that GOD looked down and saw him poison the neighbors kittens and SMOTE him....

You do NOT have to ingest it. I can be absorbed thru the skin or breathed in.

There's no way I'd eat pickled pigs feet either!

I've just recently been made aware of the temik. I'm not a full time farmer so I had never heard of it. I had a pest problem that I was looking for a solution. Well after research and information provided by some members on here, I don't see how anyone would even want to risk using it. Apparently it's bad news. Furthermore, it scares me knowing people can still get it. Accidents happen, don't be a statistic.

Temik was/is marketed as a great general purpose pesticide. Properly used it works great for big agricultural purposes. Problem is, it also kills everything and can be used as a bioweapon under certain conditions.

We adapted in cotton by using seed treatments to guard against nematodes and thrips. So much safer. Bayer lost a lot of sales $$$ losing Temik. They still haven't really recovered from that.

That's right, they stopped making it cause it worked as good if not better than Agent Orange, which they also maked...those crazy German Chemical companies..

before regulations changed.... in 80's before lock-n-load jugs... for disposal i remember we had to dig an 8' pit to bury it in out by the old barn behind the shop.

*yes, back before used oil collection tanks were required....and full coverage plastic suits in the sweltering summer heat for handling chemicals...and chemical application licensure...and common sense reminder signs posted everywhere in harzardous areas (raising arizona always comes to mind when i see them now.."mind you don't cut yourself, mordechai")

Lock-N-load was a joke! We spilled more wrestling them damn jugs than with bags. However the gypsum did flow better and didn't stop up. We just burned out empty corn cob bags and boxes. That's back when you could do that
