What is the best vegetation to plant for screening? I need to plant an area on a powerline to screen it in. I was thinking buying some Egyptian wheat and planting it in May/June. What's the best course of action here?

Thanks

central ala,
I think you need to elaborate a little more. For example, if you own the land and plan to keep it you might want to consider a privacy fence with the power co. approval. They would need a gate.

If its leased property, Egyptian wheat or a tall growing corn. But either one is subject to laying down later in the season.

You couldn't do it on a powerline but this past winter I planted a bunch of Virginia pines along a road. They supposedly grow fast, are tough, and don't shed their lower limbs. Time will tell.

What about switchgrass?

Good long term solution but the first 2 or 3 years it's like, well...watching grass grow.

Is there some place in the Birmingham area to purchase Egyptian wheat seed?

if God wanted me to be a vegetarian, he would have made shooting brussel sprouts more fun!

Not sure about B'ham, but seedland has it, but i think they only sell 50lbs bags, so you and a friend would need to go in together, it's $82/50lb bag + shipping. I bought 10 lbs from cooper seeds a few years back, but not sure if they are still in business. Hancock seed has it in small quantities and looks to have free shipping.

We are mixing our own this year. Sunflowers, Corn, EW, and Milo. I figured the corn and milo would give the EW a little support. Will also make an excellent food source for birds and possibly afford a little nesting cover for the few quail around. Planting a 400 yard stretch along a public road. Hoping for the best!
