My wife and I have had a house built and we are about a month away from being finished,I want a stacked stone fireplace and have been looking at the faux stone panels that screw into the wall,it looks pretty easy to do,is fairly inexpensive and will only take a day or so to finish ,has anyone done a fireplace with the panels or individual stone that's mortared to the wall?where did you buy the stuff and are you satisfied with the results?ive looked at Boral stone products, air stone, next stone and several others, just looking for some info on this stuff, thanks

IMO get a GOOD mason to do real stack stone. It will look a lot better and will be done right. Not saying you can't do it right yourslef but I think the faux rock stuff just looks cheap. Just my 2 cents.

We've got fake stone at our cabin and it looks good but I regularly find a stone that is loose and have to reglue it. Found a large one this week on the outside of the chimney that was about to fall. Not sure what they used to glue it on but it's not holding good. Follow manufacturer recommendations and I'm sure you would be okay.

Thanks for the replies fellas, kinda want to do the fake stuff just because of weight and it will be easy to demo if I ever want to change things up,I agree that some look bad but some of the products look really good,I'm only gonna have 40-50 sq/ft to do as I'm not gonna go all the way to the ceiling with it,the boral and el dorado are what I'm leaning toward right now,are there any places around mobile or baldwin county that keep this stuff in stock?a guy in our club done his fireplace at his camp this year and got his stuff around mobile,I don't have his # to find out where he got it but his fireplace looks really good.i kinda want to look at it in person before I order or buy it.

If you do it yourself I'd cut the sand In your mortar. I always mixed mine rich because it will help hold better. I never had a problem with mine coming off.
