Was hoping that some of you with more experience than me can help me with determining which fertilizer blend (if one exists) that I need to use to match the recommendation of my soil test results. It is calling for 60-110-70 per acre and one ton of lime per acre. So far I have not been able to find any blend that will meet or atleast come extremely close to meeting all of these. The plot itself is just over 16000 square feet and was mulched out last summer from some ovegrown trees. Thanks in advance!!

Some Co-Ops use to mix fertilizer as you needed, call Zorn's at Florala of some of the other Co-Ops and see if they do or know someone that does.

With a plot that's small, there's no sense in getting a special mix IMO. Just get 5 or 6 bags of 17-17-17 and be done with it. Add a little more "P" if you want. Doesn't have to be perfect, and it won't be. Good luck.

150 pounds of 0-20-20 and 75 pounds of 34-0-0 should get you close.

I have one local feed store that showed interest in helping. They are suppose to be calling their supplier and giving me a call back. Everyone else is just saying to use 17-17-17 or 20-20-20 to get the N and K pretty close and not to worry to much about the P. I'm not an expert by any means but that seems strange. Florala is not that far so I may give Zorn's a call.

Use 3 bags of 34-0-0 this will give you 51 lbs of nitrogen. Use 5 bags of 0-46-0, this will give you 115 lbs of Phosphorous. Use 2 bags of 0-0-60, this will give you 60 lbs of potassium. All co-ops should carry these, there common. This will get you real close.

So the extra nitrogen and potash will not hurt anything? That has been my main concern. After all the work of clearing the plot out I just didn't want to over fertilize it to where it burnt anything I try to grow.

If you use my guidelines, there won't be any extra nitrogen. If you want it right don't use 17-17-17.

From what little experience I have, it seems that getting the pH right with lime is a crucial thing. If your pH is too low, a good bit of the fertilizer you put out is never utilized by the plant anyways. The image below is from "Biology and Management of White-tailed Deer in Alabama."

Combine blumsden idea with CNC's math and you have the correct answer. You can effectively mix your own fertilizer with ammonium nitrate, triple phosphate, and potash.

It is starting to come together now. The soil test said the ph was 5.3 so no wonder everything is so low. I was actually surprised it only called for one ton of lime per acre with a ph that low. But then I'm no chemist either. Thanks alot for all the input!

It aint rocket science. Use 3 17-17-17 and 1 0-46-0 and you'll be right on it

Your recommendations were for 1 acre. Since your plot is basically 1/3 of an acre, divide those recommendations by 3. You basically need 20-36-23. Remember that the figures given on a bag of fertilizer are a percentage. So a 50lb bag of 17-17-17 only has 8.5 lbs of each nutrient. It takes 100lb to reach the 17lb dose. Using ron's estimates above would be mixing it a little strong but it would get you dang close. 3 bags of 17-17-17 would net you 25.5-25.5-25.5 plus an additional 23 lbs of Phosphate from a 50lb bag of 0-46-0 would essentially give you 25-48-25 if you round down. I might just use a half a bag of 0-46-0 but he's right, that'll do it. It's probably as close as you're going to get if you want to use premixed stuff.

The first number is nitrogen so if u buy a bag of 34-0-0 that means there is 34 puunds of nitrogen per 100 pounds of product,so if u buy 2 - #50Lb bags u will have #34Lb of nitrogen. The middle number is phosphorus. The third # is potassium or potash.Note that u can only put so many pounds per acer I dont know what your planting but it takes time to build soil.

People read into soil testing too much trust me I have never took a soil test ever look at it like this you drink your mama,s sweet tea then you may go to 10 restraints the tea is all different some to sweet some alright some to sweet every one may say I'm crazy but I've been planting greenfield since I was 10 years old now I'm 42 I bags of triple 13 have planted every type seed out there when fifinally figured out the best there is for the least money 100 pounds crimson clover 50 pounds of white tail imperative clover mix them together ad bags of triple 13 per acre plant the clover in April to get good root system out of that much clover you should get 10 1acre green fields disk about an half an acre around each field I plant iron claypeas and soybeans in the half acre area during the summer then when September gets here I disk up the beans and peas add 2 more bags of triple 13 then 150 pounds of seed wheat were the peas were bush hog just the top of the clover around August then you are good to go I also haven never used lime everyone I talk to say that lime is most important part but I take the money for soil test and lime to buy my seed i also have a dove shoot every year to buy my seed and fertilizer I'm on disability so I find a way because hunting is really important to me I have around 600 acres I hunt on 4 different property,s all I have to do is get Alabama Forrest association on God bless everyone.

Here's the deal. Someone already mentioned it. The the pH right first.

Also, if you put all that fertilizer out in one application on a food plot, lots of it is going to be wasted.

You need to put it out in at least 2 split applications.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
