Regarding 123,

If you are in a club with 10 members and have 4 feeders would you buy 4 permits (I know there is a sticker on the feeder) or would each member have to purchase a license for each feeder (40 permits)?

Both bills are awful and hopefully they won't make it out of committee. In addition to the problem of the creation of a new felony offense, SB 116 would require the Court to place a monetary value on wildlife for the purposes of restitution. This is in contradiction to the North American model of conservation wherein wildlife has intrinsic value and is owned collectively by people and managed by the State for the peoples benefit. If we are going to start placing a monetary value on every game animal, we might as well reduce them all to livestock to be bought and sold.

I'm not real crazy about Forever Wild, either. As far as putting value on game animals, that ship sailed a long time ago. Allowing the fencing in of game animals started that slippery slope.

But there has never been a legislative value placed on a game animal. This would require the Court determine the value of a deer or a turkey in order to assess restitution. That's a horrible idea. There would be no consistency across the state unless the Department of Conservation passed a regulation establishing a value, which sets an awful precedent. I'm a hunter and I would place an extremely high value on a game animal whereas another judge who doesn't hunt or understand wildlife may only make a nominal valuation. The issue about high fence animals is different because for all intents and purposes they are treated like livestock by the high fence owners regardless of whether they are viewed as such by the state. I have several friends in Lowndes County who own or operate high fences and they can place a monetary value on each animal. We don't need to extend that already flawed system to free range game.

I agree it's a fine line they're trying to walk. I view the making wild game a personal property(ie high fencing) the same type of fine line that they crossed in the passed. I know some don't see it that way, but I do. Seemingly small steps now, will become hugh leaps later down the road. JMO, take it for what it's worth.

Wanting permits for feeders is nothing new. I know I guy that's been voicing his opinion on this issue for years. He's basically been saying make "baiting" legal and issue permits for feeders.

Seen this brought up on this site several times. It is nothing new. Whately just ran with it.

That battle is coming here. It has already happened/ing in other states.

I'm not the smartest man in the world, but I am smart enough to know the Bama feeding law is one of the most ridiculous game laws on the books anywhere. From reading over these current proposed bills it looks like the idiocy will continue. Yall are really getting the short end of the stick and I hate it for you. Yall deserve much better than this garbage!

This is about pricing regular people out of deer hunting. Both bills. If the penalty is so high for a simple mistake of accidental trespassing while hunting, then fewer people will hunt. If only the people who can afford to feed with a permitted feeder can shoot deer over bait then regular people will just give up.
These bills show a real contempt for the good people of this state. These politicians should probably be voted out come next election for even proposing these bills. I wonder what other nasty bills they are proposing for the non-hunting topics?

I agree 100%. I've already heard of a few bills that make about as much sense as these.

It is my opinion that this is a straight anti hunting bill. It said you didn't have to buy a permit for a feeder if you weren't using it for hunting. Also while I agree with being harsh on trespassing or poaching, making a felony out of it is just plain wrong.

Does it say that, if passed, that you can buy a feeder, put the $50 permit sticker on it and hunt directly over the feeder?
