Growing up I always had dogs and few cats. My daughters bday was Saturday and of all things she wanted a hedgehog. So now we have 2, everybody thinks there so "cute" I just dont get it. Anyone else have any?

If I saw that in my house, I'd have to call my buddies over at Nortons Flooring.

Some of the folks I go to school with have hedgies. Most of these people are extremely strange. I think they rank 2 behind ferrets in how bad they stink.

Got one girl that breeds ball pythons for really odd color combinations and patterns. I think she and her fiance have around 15-20 ball pythons in her trailer. Again, strange cookies.

One girl has an indoor/outdoor pig. She's really nice and normal, not bad looking either.

I really don't know where I am going with this, so I am going to stop.

Ha, by no means was I insinuating that your daughter was strange, just saying that most of the folks I know that have exotic pets are usually space cadets. But I guess you have to be to go to school for 8 years and incur 200K in debt to graduate and start off at 70K if you're lucky.

I am not an expert, but I believe the more you handle the critters the friendlier and more sociable they become.

Hedge Hogs and Fennec Foxes are the hot pets right now. I've got to admit the fennecs are cool and would be fun but I'm not ready to plop down two large to buy one.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Had a spider monkey growing up. I have a friend that has had all kinds of critters. a 4 ft iguana, all kinds of snakes, sugar gliders, hedge hogs, African tortoise, etc.... He's a Veterinarian and has worked on elephants to seals to Chinese otters, etc...

His daughter is 7 now and well rounded and extremely bright, not many kids if any can say they have been around and played with the critters she has.

Are you saying the pig is 4H award winning material or dating stock?

I will get my son (BUKFEVR92) to post a picture of his friends pet opossum. That thing freaks me out. I believe the damn thing uses a litter box like a cat.

I had a flying squirrel when I was younger that was cool. I raised him on an eye dropper and had him for 3-4 years before my little brother accidently stepped on him. Also raised all kinds of ducks, pheasants, fallow and muntjac deer.

I had a nutria as a pet and it was actually a perty good pet till it dicided it was gonn try to eat the legs of my mothers kitchen table. Think I got $12 for the hide back then. Also had a coon. This thing was awesome and so much fun. If you went to the store and got you a bag of chips you had to get him one too. If you didnt he would get pissed and try to get yours. If he couldn't get any he would chit one the back seat of the car. One of the smartest pets I ever had but as he got older he started to get mean. Don't remember what I got for his hide.

Does it involve a ceiling fan and tic tacs? I've heard part of a story about that.

I've had all sorts of random pets throught the years. Snakes, squirrels, goats, but the most random pet I've ever had was crawfish. I used to completely stock my own fresh water aquariums with what ever I could catch. The crawfish were escape artist. I would find them outta the tank crawling all around my house.

My baby sister had a pet tarrantula she named Michelle after her boss who she disliked. She fed it live crickets that she bought at a pet store. After 3 or 4 years she found the crickets munching on Michelle, who had passed away in the middle of the night. My Dad had a pet crow he raised from an egg. He taught it to talk and it taught itself to make a hawk cry to piss off their chickens. He had it for several years until it flew away with some wild crows.

I had a Red Fox once that I caught in a dip net swimming across Neely Henry with it's mom and several other little ones. It stank so bad we had to turn it loose.

Several years ago I was out in the yard and I noticed a momma squirrel and several little squirrels in an oak tree. I walked up to the driveway to look at them and all of the little ones come down out of the tree and came to me. I bent down and took my index finger and pet one of them on my head and the next thing I knew I had yearling squirrels sitting on my shoulders and on top of my head. They acted like they loved to be petted. Their momma sat in the tree squealing and I kept my eye on her to make sure she didn't attack, I could tell she didn't like them being around me one bit. I petted them several times after that but finally quit when they started biting. They never did bite me bad, it was just a little pinch here and there. It was just a matter of time before one sunk in though and I knew it.

Ours was named Mary, her first day out of the cage. She took off her diaper, climbed the curtains and slung poo at mom. Mom with a broom and the monkey went round and round. After that, Mary the monkey was exiled to the back yard where she lived for a few years out back in the trees. She would come down and get on the roof where we could hand her bananas.
