ok, let's make something clear: what i need is equipment free, home exercise. we ain't driving 60-mile round trip to a YMCA or fitness gym. this has to be HOME-based with no gear, no expense, other than cost of a DVD or two. the bride and i both will exercise. P90X then

I'm 46. Got inspired by watching that Herschel Walker special on espn. He got so athletic by doing pushups and sprints. I can't do sprints but got an old exercise bike I ride and I walk briskly and do knee pushups. Read where you get about 60 percent of the body weight with knee pushups vs regular. Don't laugh. It's made huge difference in strength for me and I've lost over 3o lbs since I started sept 27. Watching calories a bit too.

I'm convinced pushups are one of next exercises you can do. I add dumbbell curls too. I'd put in a little basic stretching if flexibility was an issue. Brisk walking is great too and can build you up long walks to that stand way back there.

Going to get blasted for this but, find a CrossFit box. You will find more mobility and functional fitness there than anywhere. There are a TON of CF haters but it's the one activity that I've seen people from 14-84 do together. You obviously do not have bad joints or ever felt the pain from bone on bone wear. Jumping on that box will leave it's mark for several day, I've done it...

Bare w me for a second....former pro golfer here approaching fifty. I can't hit it as far as the younger guys can due to, well, loss of flexibility and strength. I've had torn labrum surgery, knee surgery and wrist surgery in the last five years. I have found that stretching with the use of therapy bands ( cheap ) has increased my strength and flexibility and as I had hoped- my distance in golf! I feel your pain after hunting, carrying gear, lifting storage bins in and out of truck, climbing ladders and trying to push my own weight up and down a tree or ladder. This season I was able to reach, pull, stretch to next position, go under and over fences and brush much easier after I put in about 3 months of therapy band stretches. My son (13, athlete) and I challenged ourselves to exercise during the commercials of a football game on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Amazing results for both of us. He did sit ups, crunches, push ups and curls. I stretched w bands. No gym, no heavy weights. His stamina and strength increased dramatically. I picked up a solid 6 mph swing speed ( 18 yards w driver). I really felt the difference hunting this year. Not as sore, more energy and strength, easier moving with gear. So, just an idea we had that worked! Maybe it will work for you. Your trophy will certainly love your improved sheet dancing!!

Get a checkup by your physician first and make sure you're OK physically.
Get some quality walking/jogging shoes designed for your feet, with ample room for your toes, and some good socks. Start walking in your neighborhood, woods, at a local track or mall, whatever. Walk with a purpose and don't stroll around like you're looking for lost change.
Yoga is great for stretching and flexibility. I went two weeks ago with my wife to a class, enjoyed it, and will be returning. Knock out the sodas, sweet tea, sugar and white bread, too, except on occasion.
If bowhunting (and climbing trees) is your goal, make it your goal and get after it. You have about 9 months to be ready, and you can do it. Good luck.
