My son and I took a nasty spill on our way to the stand this morning. Had my son in front of me on the ATV and as wee went down a steep hill he slipped into the throttle and we went off the side of the mt. Luckily by the grace of God we r ok. We r both bruised up and had X-rays that came back ok. I unfortunately got 15 staples in my noggin. Y'all be safe out there and hope your hunts are better than mine.

I don't think I've ever seen a hunter on an ATV wearing a helmet. Not that it's a bad idea, just nobody seems to do it (me included).

I bought an ATV to get to my hunting area, now half the fun of hunting is the ride in and out.

That was the first thing I bought when I first bought my ATV (when I had it). I wore a full face mask helmet. Not only did it keep me safe but it kept me warmer too. A couple guys I hunted with would poke fun at me but like I always told them, if I wrecked on the way to my stand, and hit my head, I'd lay there for hours before they would even think to come looking for me.

Glad yall are ok. If u get a helmet I would definitely recommend a full face like Ford f150 man mentioned above. I knew a guy that wrecked on one and it almost killed him. He had a open face helmet but it didn't protect the front side of his head.

A bad day, but it could have been so much worse.

Glad you two are around to talk about it.

Thanks everyone I can't thank The Lord enough for keeping us safe. My son heard me telling my wife how I grabbed him as we started to flip and pulled him under me cuz I knew the 4 wheeler was coming over and he brought me a candy bar that he got in some stuff for his birthday which was today and said I could have it cuz I saved his life. I about lost it.

My son and I wear ours any time we get on the 4-wheeler. I consider them a vital piece of safety gear just like our safety harnesses we wear when hunting out of a tree stand.

And they also help keep your face warm on those cold rides in/out of the woods.
