im too impatient to go slow and end up trampling the next drop of blood but im too stubborn to quit looking till I find it.

Any of yall have a buddy that you could blind fold and they can find a deer??? they really make me mad....

I would like to think pretty good, but the only two that ever needed tracking, I had to have help finding. As much as I hate to admit that.

Out of 25 years of deer huntin, and probably 60-70 deer killed, the ones that are most memorable are the ones I have shot and never found. There's only 3 of em but man it is tough. I'd say I'm a 9.

I've never had to track many but earlier this week I found out that I can't see deer hair worth a flip.

I give myself a 6 now.

Eight or Nine. I was hunting alone and had to track a wide 8 point with a crooked toe almost a quarter mile on tracks mostly, with a tiny spot of blood about an 1/8" in diameter about every 40-60 feet. It was in an area with plenty of deer so his track crossed countless other fresh tracks and trails. I had stuck him too low two or three weeks into bow season. A buddy shot him on opening day of gun season. He and I trailed him for about 100yds to find him piled up with the arrow scar from weeks before just about healed up.

Pretty good. Only hunted food plots the last 6 years and I assume ot is due to a lack of true landmarks in fields, but I have a hard time finding light blood in the patches.

After 35+;years of hunting I have found all but 1 I shot has one I looked for for 2 days good thing it was at freezing the whole time. I would say 10

Well, to me, its according to what type terrain and cover i'm in. In harwoods, i'm a 10. Thru thick,nasty, briars, well i'm probably an 8. My son is really good at it. Most people are always looking for blood, and miss disturbed leaves and stumbling marks.

Certainly not a 10, but better than most of my friends.... I get called in like a dog for some tracks lol. Tracking is kind of just instinctual to me. You've gotta think like a deer. Just gotta know how they like to move through their environment. A tough track takes all 5 senses. I've used all of them to find deer except taste. Maybe I'm good cause I'm a not shooting arse

I found a doe a buddy gut shot one time. He called me in after he had jumped the deer. I found sparse blood til the first bed, then followed a pin prick every 50-75yds for about 5-700yds after. Didn't know the property, I was pretty proud of that one, took all night.

I get called in to trail em a good bit, so I guess I'm decent. I've had a lot of practice from my younger days, when I liked to sling bullets.

I'm not a 10 but I have found a few deer most wanted to give up on. When you stop relying on only blood for tracking your number will go up. If no dog available, use tracks, turned up leaves, check any nearby water source and the thickest stuff near by. Biggest mistake I see most newbies make is assuming a deer runs in a straight line. They most often circle back.
When you are done looking, do it again. Found deer many times the 2nd time around. Walked right past it the first time.
Found them in mud holes, under creek banks, under fallen trees or logs.

A solid 10 in the snow. A 9 otherwise.

I'm not the best, but I have found several that others have given up on. The main thing for me is to go slow, and stay on my hands and knees. If I stay low enough with enough light I can find pin size drops of blood that I would have never found if just bent over. I also smell the blood fairly often, if I start to get a whiff of guts, I back out and give it some more time.

Average would be my assessment. 7 or 5 depending. Tracked one over half mile once but certainly lost a few. Am much better in daylight.

The comment about incandescent being better than led is spot on. Spent 30 minutes last night trailing a doe my son shot. Changed fron led to incandescent & was dragging her out in 10 minutes.

Honestly, probably a 7.
