What's the difference in zinc chromate and zinc phosphate ? Zinc Chromate is viewed by the powers that be as a carcinogen blah, blah, blah. Zinc Phosphate is supposed to be a safer alternative that will probably eventually take the place of the Chromate. Basically, the've removed the chemical properties of the Chromate that make it what it is and replaced it with the "safer" version, i.e. Zinc Phosphate.
