Very little pressure. I am the only one that's goes on this property and can see plenty of bucks Nov, Dec, and half of Jan. Don't put cameras out on this property to keep it as scent free as I can. Hard to believe the does aren't getting educated and them dumb little 1 and 2 yo bucks are? I understand when the bucks hit about 4 they become a different animal. Been going on for years. I have another property that is just the opposite. Same scenario but see few bucks early on and an influx the last week or two. I know, hunt the first property the first 2.5 months and the other property the last 2 weeks. Just trying to come up with a reason for it.
Another strange thing about the first place: Has 1 food plot. Deer in plot most all day but really start coming in good around 2:30. Normally, whats in the plot by 4:30 is what you are gonna see that day. Rarely, even the bucks early on, come in after 4:30...at least during shooting light.

How close are the 2 properties? Maybe on your main property, the rut is out by then. We usually see an in flux of bucks around x-mas and New years, then it goes dead for about 10 days, then it really picks up. Maybe the last 2 weeks is kinda a dead period, hard to say. Exactly 31.2 miles by road...Not even close.

My place is the same way: No new deer show up in January If you have not shot by 4:30 you don't shoot cause whats coming to the field is already there. However I run cameras and though there is hardly any pressure the last card pull of the season will have almost all bucks exclusively nocturnal. My guess is though we don't pressure it real bad the neighbors may start moving around more walking lines doing drives and hunting with the wrong wind. These factors can affect your place as well. Buy some cameras put them out and check em once a month. You will learn alot.

Could be the neighbors. Don't understand the does still there but the young bucks are not being seen. Sure some die. But this past spring I picked up 6 sheds in this plot from different deer(5 left antlers and 1 right) then 1 more this fall planting that I had missed. I'll never know but just looking for a plausible explanation. This has been going on for years. I killed a deer there this year that is the first in about 5 years. Even not shooting the deer in the past they disappear.

What does it matter you don't see bucks now anyway so put cams out and see what they are doing.

I agree, put out your camera's. Thats the only way for sure to know whats going on. We can sit here and guess, all day long. The camera don't lie. I believe you'll find the bucks are still there, the rut is probably over and they went back to being nocturnal. 3.5 months of pressure, even if its not on your property, will make deer nocturnal. People who have mature buck daytime movement, outside of the rut, have very large properties where the pressure is controlled. A deer doesn't stay on 400 acres, so you may not be pressuring your property but when they leave it, they feel pressure from the neighbors.

Here is an example of what happenes on my place. Up until January 15-20th depending on the year (based on card pulls), daytime pics galore, when I pulled my cameras on the 25th this year, I had more buck chasing doe pics than I had all year. But every picture of a buck I had was at night except one which was taken at 10:47 am. Bucks are still there just went nocturnal. For years I thought they left the property and got killed or that we had poachers shooting them as they would just vanish. Yes, but I just don't expect that from the 1 and 2 yo's. Does are still easily seen in daylight. Wouldn't think the young bucks would be any different than these adult does. Maybe so.

On the 15th a friend hunted and saw 8pt 7pt three 4 pts, 4 spikes and 15 does. On the 23rd same stand 1 spike 12 does, on the 24th 14 does. Camera pics show spikes 4 pts 8 pt all still there but not coming in until after dark.

Well, I went this day (1-29-15) and put SEVERAL cameras on this property. Food plots and trails. Almost 3 weeks and I have not stepped foot on this property until today to pick up the cameras. Several hundred pictures between all cameras. I was amazed that probably 75% of the pictures were daylight. BUT ONLY 2 BUCKS!!!! 1 small 7pt and 1 small 8pt. I had not seen these bucks. While hunting I would see as many as 6 bucks in an afternoon until around 1-20-15 and poof!! they were gone. Happens every year. They usually start showing back up around the first week or two of March.

Had two around 140" deer show up jan 4, visible during daylight for 3 days, then vanished. Not one pic of them from the 7th thru the 28. They were both on camera again for 3-4 days. No clue where they go but im convinced they either have a tunnel or they're air lifted out. 12 cameras on 950 acres and there is only two of us. I guess thats how they get big

they are smarter than we give them credit for. I have had a piebold on my place for 2.5 years. I get 4 or 5 pics a year of him. He has been spotted once.

My guess would be that after being worn down and wore out from breeding, there is a preferred food source a few miles from where your property is, that they are moving to to replenish all they lost during the rut.

Bill is right. I saw 10 bucks on a powerline food plot late this afternoon. 1.5 and 2.5 yo's. I think a big one will step out one day. Hard to miss with those binos.
