I own about 100, but I'm not into the crazy end of management that a lot of people are. I had rather hunt state law and have a good time without worrying about a buck being acceptable to other people's standards.

Not really sure what "manage" means. If it's all forest land there's not a ton of land management to be done besides bushhogging roads and fields. If you're talking about "killing does" type of management, I'm sure people could find a way.

Everyone who I know that owns land just wants more, so there's no way to give a good number.

By "maintain and manage" I meant the time and effort it would take to do all of the things, big or little, that come with owning land. Such as maintaining road systems and firelanes, managing timber, bushhogging fields, planting fields, and keeping deer population in check.

I guess I need to know the generally accepted definition of "manage". I've got 42 acres and farm about 10. I'm about maxed out on what I can do by myself at night and on the weekends.

So my answer is 42/42 or less, until I retire.

Yep it's a lot of work for sure, even on a small place. I see you're in Auburn, so you may be used to having to fight the deer off in Bullock county, but some of us wish we had some deer miracle grow, so we'd see more of them more often.

It is definitely a lot of work. Thats why i was curious to hear the responses. I do most of my hunting on our 350 acres in Russell County. Some days we may see 10 or 15 deer, sometimes we'll go all weekend without seeing a deer. Hunting is just a small part of owning land.

I own 40 and don't hunt it my neighbors do a good enough job of hunting theirs my isn't worth hunting. Would like to own 5,000 in Western KY. and if I could afford to buy that I could afford to quit work and would have no problem managing it.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

The only land I own is a burial plot. I'm using a little more than that for the time being though. smile

Me,my wife, and the bank owns 80 acres. As long as we're in fantasy world, well then i would like 5000 acres, all contiguous. I dont want to pay for it, maybe i have a long lost uncle and i'm his favorite nephew and he has one foot in the grave.
