Read an article in AON today where they are collecting yotes. My question is, who on here is letting one walk if they see one?

I hope none of them make it to complete the survey. Who cares if one travels 50 ft or 50 miles in a day. Everyone knows what their diet consist of. I'm sure we'll read that it's to understand their behavior. Who cares what their behavior is. They are an evasive predator that needs wiped off the map by any means necessary.

The only way to understand a coyote, is to study them. Knowledge about an invasive critter helps when you try to keep their numbers in check, and sorry guys but shooting a few every year, hasn't exactly worked has it? Everybody i know shoots every one they see, and theres just as many now, as there were 5 years ago. I hope they learn enough from the study to help us understand more about how they interact, so it will help us control them a little better.

Maybe somebody will come up with a better way to kill them. I think it will take some kind of parvo or distemper powder or pellet that can be placed in a bait for them. A way to catch wild rabbits and inject them with a virus and then release them for the coyotes to consume them might work. All dogs should have already had their immunizations so coyotes and feral dogs would be the ones affected.

I love to eat rabbit, plus foxes and bobcats also eat rabbits, so thats not an option. Foxes and bobcats are not invasive and are a natural part of out native animals in this state. Killing all them off, will cause other problems.

Fellas we ain't getting rid of coyotes. They are one of the most successful species ever as they have been able to adapt to man and his activities and thrive. Yes we can thin them out a little but any more than that is all but impossible. We are just going to have to adjust bag limits accordingly. The most important thing for us deer hunters is to get a better idea of mortality and fawn recruitment due to coyotes, then adjust the season and bag limits to account for coyote predation on the deer herd.
It could be MUCH worse. A buddy of mine hunts near Big Cypress in south Florida. This year they didn't kill a single deer due to the expanding panther population. This is on a pretty high dollar lease, by the way. They can't kill the panthers cuz they are endangered and protected. So, like I said, the coyote ain't tgat big of a deal in comparison.

Why in the world would the WMA's not institute a Coyote only season during May-July? I doubt there would be anywhere near the numbers hunting as during deer and small game seasons. But it would thin the coyotes down during the all important fawn recruitment period. If they offered a bounty for them, that would help even more.

Sure if you destroy the habitat and/or negatively impact lots of other species through poisoning, etc, in the process you could. Outside of that I don't see it happening.

St.Vincent Island (Apalachicola Bay) has a heck of a wild hog and coyote population, and has whitetail and Sambar deer. US Fish and Wildlife and FDEP has spent tens of thousands of dollars over 30 years trying to get rid of the hogs and coyotes there to stop them from preYing on sea turtles nests. Nope, nada, didn't happen and wont. It's pretty much impossible and that's on an island.
FYI, methods used were trapping, actively hunting, and poison.I worked alongside some of these folks and I know what kind of time they have put into getting rid of the hogs and coyotes. Last I heard they have given up totally removing them. Now they just try and control numbers with traps aND hunting.

you ought to know the Gov , cant do any thing . they help with birth control on deer and that didn't work .

you do relize the number of animals we have put out or nearly did . why we have game laws now . if the hunters wanted to we could get rid of the coyotes and hogs .

There were professional predator hunters brought in and locals were paid to hunt them as well. Lots of local knowledge and professional predator hunting knowledge was put into the effort. You, I, anybody isn't going to get rid of coyotes. They are here to stay. We have to learn to live with them and adjust accordingly.
If I see one, I kill him, but that's a grain of sand in a beach full of sand. Like I said, hunters can kill some, but a significant impact, no.
It will take somebody thinking outside of the box and a totally method of population control to get coyotes close to gone.

when the last man on earth dies, a coyote will be here to lick his bones.

and i say the hunters aint had enough incentive to get rid of them yet . as with some they will be content to just control them but the can be wiped out . won't and can't are two different things .

sorry if i dont have the belief that coyotes have some type of magic that the other animals didn't have that we wiped out or nearly wiped out .

I agree with you. They wiped red wolves out of the most of the state years ago.

Less hunters today than they were years ago. Years ago people hunted for food. If they didn't kill anything, they didn't eat. I'm no expert, but i don't think that we can wipe out hogs or coyotes, strictly by hunting. Hell, everybody i kinow, shoots every hog and coyote that they see, and its made no difference. We don't give them enough credit and we give ourselves too much. Frankie, if you really believe we can wipe them out, why don't you hunt them everyday on your property and give a report on your success, 365 days from now. I bet they'll still be plenty running around.
