In yalls opinion what is the best call tactic to use late rut.... Doe bleat? Grunt? Rattles? Etc. I've been pretty confident on THE CAN doe estrus bleat by buck commander. What are your thoughts? Also I'm located in Marengo county.

I've called in a lot of deer with a can call, but none were mature bucks. I shot a nice 3 y/o 8 ptr a week ago and the doe he was with, ran across the logging road and starting bleating.

Not me...never.

I've had them come to a grunt and to my rattling horns.

I've snort wheezed at bucks with great results, even in bow season.

I was slipping along this year and me and an old doe came face to face. She began popping her foot and blowing and I remain frozen. This goes on for about 5 mins and I hear a deer walking straight up the mtn below me. It was a young 8 pt and he walked straight to her and then she bolted. My point is when their out crusing for does alone any deer sound is going to get their attention and/or response. I think most folks call at the wrong time of the year or most of the time there is just not a buck within earshot of you.

No. But I have tested on a doe that was across a clear cut about 300 yards and I hit it a few times and she came strait to me walked under my stand and kept walking looking for where it came from. That's why I'm confident about it.

I have never had a buck respond to a can call except to run the other way. I have had them come to a grunt. I think the can is best put in the garbage can.

I personally have never called a deer in using a can, BUT the last two bucks I happened to be lucky enough to kill were full rut chasing does that I watched make "The Can" sound. I mean they sounded JUST like turning a can over, and when they did it, those bucks went retarded. This was two different years and two different hunts. I've never called one in, but after seeing that I do believe they can work!!
