I shot a nice buck late this afternoon. He hunched up and ran into a pine plantation. I waited about 15 min and got down to check for blood. Where he was standing there was a piece of skin about the size of a fifty cent piece with white hair on it and it looked like the entire contents of his stomach scattered on the ground. I didnt look any further. I decided to wait until daylight tomorrow. What do yall think will be the chances of finding him? I shot him with a 444. Update.... Got back to where I shot him at 7 am and found him about 20 min later. He traveled about 200 yards and layed in a small pool of water. He was dead about 20 yards up the hill from the water. Sad to say the coyotes found him during the night and removed the hind quarters. I cant get the pic posted from phone. Will try from computer tonight. [img:center] [/img]

If you don't find him on your own in the morning give IdahoMike a call. Mike and his tracking dog, Lucy, will find that deer for you.
His number is 630-240-6394.

Mike is back in Georgia. But id let him lay over night gut shot deer will die and minimum of 8 hrs before you track is a good idea. Where you located im gonna be outta pocket tomorrow but I may know of a tracker in your area.
It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

You should find him pretty close but be ready for him to get up. If you have trouble and there is water nearby be sure to check it good they like to drag them guts thru that water.

You will probably find him particularly since you didn't go in after him and jump him up. I hope the wind was not from you to him when you went in to look.
You may find a bed full of blood, and him gone, but look a little further and he will have bedded down gain.
Go in quiet, be still and look all around without moving, then proceed further doing the same thing. Be ready to shoot just in case.
Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Ready to see these pics this morning, he didn't go far with a stomach ache like that. I agree with this. That deer wont live,...good call not jumping him last night. I think he bedded down all sick and expired last night

I cut the head off and put a camera over the rest of it. Should have some interesting pics in a couple of days.
