I am looking for land to lease for upcoming 2015-2016 deer season. Looking for something within 30 minutes drive around Columbus, MS area. Can be located in Alabama or Mississippi, doesn't matter. If anyone has or knows of anywhere just shoot me a message, thanks!

One of the big timber companies had a BUNCH of unleased properties in Mississippi this year. Rayonier or Weyerhaueser, don't remember which one but I THINK they took them off the website recently (to discourage poaching on the unoccupied parcels I was told).

Contact them and ask. You won't have a lot of luck getting other people on here to do your legwork for you. IMHO anyway

Appreciate the info, I'll give weyerhauser a call. I've been looking on their website and didn't see anything, didn't think of them taking unleased land off web.

I wouldn't have known it myself if my friend and I weren't looking at a parcel of theirs right at that time and the contact (lady in MS?) hadn't told us.

I WANT to remember the bulk of the parcels were between Philadelphia, Aberdeen and Meridian? Sorry I know that's awfully vague, but we weren't looking there for ourselves. I just was surprised at how MANY there were how late and still available.

I THINK (don't work for them) they look for the highest return they can get. That having been said, USUALLY it's listed close to $10 per acre. More for smaller tracts and less for bigger. Earlier in the season they will be less willing to deal than later.

$10 an acre for a GOOD tract (mixed timber, decent roads, reasonable access) is WORTH $10 or more. You just need to LOOK at it. IN PERSON! ON THE GROUND! The reason for all the caps is the place I referenced in an earlier post looked GREAT from the maps and Google Earth and all we could determine. Upon closer inspection though, the road by the E side was WELL traveled by locals and offered NO PLACE to park and get a vehicle out of sight (in other words kiss your **** good bye if you left it in view in your truck while hunting.

Almost any place in a decent area can be MADE into good hunting. Trouble is, you won't find out what and how much is necessary until you have paid a years lease $ and THEN you have to pray you can hold onto it long enough to reap the benefits of the work you put into it. Good luck.
