This morning I went with my godfather to his place to try to call one in for him. We were running a little late, but got on a few gobbling birds pretty quick. By the time we got to them and set up they had quit gobbling and I think must have been on the ground. They were out in a field, and we set up behind a thick little head of woods. We were set up so we couldn't see out in the field, and if they stepped around the corner they were going to be right on us. Well after about 15 or 20 minutes of calling, we hadn't heard or seen anything and I was starting to wonder what had happened. Next thing I know, a gobbler steps around the corner and right after him another one. They were both blown up strutting and looking for the hen. My godfather got on one and shot and he went down. The second bird was running off and I cut at him and he stopped and I shot him. Another textbook double and we were done by 6:20. Both were nice birds. My godfather's had about 3/4 in. spurs but his beard had to have been over 12 inches. It was the longest I've ever seen. I'll let yall know when he measures it. My bird had 1 inch spurs and a 10 3/4 inch beard.
