This is a dear friend of mine. Her German Shepherd was killed with a rifle last week. Please, if you hear anything, pm me with any information you may have about this...

"This was a family dog (German Shepard) which all my children loved she wouldn't have hurt a fly. Around 12:00 p.m. Thursday December 18, 2014 simply a week away from Christmas she was shot and killed in a hunting club 50 yards away from our house 5 or 6 shots were fired and on top of it scaring the entire neighborhood it could have very well traveled through and into one of my kids. my kids are heart broken and my youngest daughter and her other dog were the ones to find her. we are currently asking anyone who knows who was in the hunting club Thursday to come fourth and apologize for this horrible act of hatred she could not have been mistaken for a wild animal because she had a collar on. she was shot behind her head so no one could say they didn't see it. there were only two names on the list to be in the club that day and they were not in the area, so whoever it was, was there illegally. it was extremely too close to my house and the weapon used was a high-powered gun 50 YARDS AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. we have some friends with cameras out there so it is best if the one who shot Aurora to come forth please like and share with all your friends so we can have justice for this sweet innocent and beloved pet."

Good thing it wasn't a pitt, there would have been a line of aldeer members waiting to kill it.

Could be 90% of the people who are on this board and have admitted they would shoot a dog on their hunting property. I hope your child wasn't wondering through the hunting club when they found the dog.

I feel horrible for the family and their loss, but I'm confused by the concern of a gun on the adjacent HUNTING property?

If we start a list I'd like first dibs before the barrel gets too hot for me to be able to hit where I'm shooting.

I think he was talking bout the distance from the house. But if the land was owned by the shooter he could sit on the property line and hunt no matter how close.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Does ANYBODY know the Laws and Regulations anymore???

There are several problems here.....and the MAIN two that actually involve legalities are the killing of a family pet AND the violation of 220-2-.139. They should NOT be hunting that close to the man's house!

That reg doesn't apply to a landowner or family on their own land. Says so right in the part you copied. Only one person knows what that dog was doing when it was shot. There's not a German Shepard alive that can't get aggressive under the right circumstances. I am not saying people need to go around shooting people's dogs, but dogs need to be put up on your own property. This wasn't a hunting dog. Yard dogs that run loose are a dog hunters worst enemy public opinion wise.

Pretty certain the OP stated it was a Hunting Club with a Sign-In Board.

Was the dog shot 50 yds from the house or found 50yds from the house? Was there a stand so you know how far the shooter was from the house when the shots were fired? Have you asked your neighbors? One that did not like your dog could have easily seen the dog out and followed it to the hunting club land and shot it in order to deflect detection? Got to keep dogs up now days.

simple answer is the true one...some asshat member of the club shot the dog.

This thread will get interesting.....

I'm sorry that a family pet was lost.

However, I'd be willing to bet it won't be the last one if there is a hunting club nearby and family pets are allowed to roam the club freely.

Some people have a lot of time and money invested in hunting property and have a low tolerance for dogs that roam free.

With that being said, I live out in the country and have a dog that roams off of my property and may suffer the same fate one day. If that happens I won't blame anyone but myself for not keeping the dog on my own property.

I don't know the circumstances surrounding this story nor any of the facts so I'm not taking up for whoever shot the dog but there are two sides to every story.

You're only as good as your worst shot-

Not to be insensitive but was the dog kept in a pen?? Did it get out?? Or do you let it roam. I have a dog and if anyone shot her id be livid but ive also hunted property next to a neighborhood that I had problems with dogs at.
