Just curious, how many of you actually have a scale that you weigh all your deer on? We've weighed every deer that we've killed in the last 18 years. Thats a lot of data. Some of the weight responses, that i see on here makes me wonder, if people are actually weighing thier deer, or just assuming how much a deer weighs.

If it's a big bodied deer, we'll weigh it. Otherwise, no.

Same here. I have cotton scales we hoist a big one up with. I love to see the scales hit the 200 mark! We haven't killed a small deer in years, but we would not weigh them. We only shoot mature deer here by the house and every one we shoot here go over 200 easily. Corn and soybeans have a way of packing on deer fat.

I can't stand a thief.

Just bought a scale this week and intend to start effective immediately. Tired of the guessing....

At the club every deer gets weighed jaw pulled and racks recorded. Before hunting here the majority of the time no.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Weigh every deer and measure spread, main beam length, base circumference, and total points on the bucks. Been doing it for 25 years.. for the 1st 12 or so years,we pulled every jawbone and sent them in to be aged. Quit doing that though. Think the oldest deer killed was a doe that was 9 1/2

When you weigh every deer killed, and i'm talking several hundred, you get pretty good at guessing the live weights of deer, of different ages. We always guess the weight before we hoist it up, and it never fails, the younger hunters and even the older guys who have never been around scales, always guess high. Sometimes, as much as 25-30lbs high.

We weigh them all bucks and does. Since we kill 5-1 does over bucks I think their weight gives us a better idea of the health of our deer herd and the success of our summer food plots.

We don't kill but one or two deer a year. We guess their weights, then weight them. We are usually dead on with our guesses.

We weigh every deer and record it in a log. I still pull jaw bones on some bucks just for my own info.

I was wondering the same thing as the OP. I weigh all of my deer but I've never killed a mature buck so I wasn't sure of their weights. Well last week I got to weigh a 4yo big bodied buck. I was sure after reading all the post on here about he was only 2.5 but weighed 185lbs, Or I got a good buck that weighed 220+, that this deer was gonna weigh atleast 200lbs. Wrong he weighed 180, and the processor said that was about the biggest bodied buck he sees come in. This is lee county. I think there is a lot of estimating going on
