I'm thinking the kid will end up paying the owner,he knew it was his escaped deer and the deer was tagged just like cattle, the kid already admitted he knew it was the escaped deer, now if he would have had no knowledge of it being a tame deer then that's a different story Not if I was on the jury. Me either. He should have kept quiet, cause we won't be on the jury. True....but juries are a crap shoot.... All depends on the luck of the draw.....

Does the state own game animals or do they not? Was the kid legally able to hunt the area he killed it? If you buy it, breed it and keep it in a pen, is it a game animal or livestock? I think that has a lot to do with if the state classifies it as a game animal. I doubt there are any laws and regulations about how cows and horses can be hunted..........yet there are for the species killed.

I just read that article. My favorite part was "She spotted the deer several times in a treestand set up about 26.5 yards from a feeder..." Glad they weren't trying to give a specific distance.

If you read the article from Petersens Hunting Journal it clearly states that they didn't know it was an escaped deer, and for those claiming she was gonna get sued for it, the owners of the deer state in the article that they are letting her keep it and are happy for her. 2 different stories. I posted the link to the Peterson story to show that the owner of the escaped deer COULD sue for compensation for the animal. The ones in this story chose not to. And, yes, she didn't know it was an escaped farmed deer. The boy in the current story knew what he was doing and could still get sued for it.

I believe the kid had more than a right to kill the deer. I would have busted him too. The Outfitter should have his licensed pulled for not being able to contain his deer. If someone in my area lets their deer get out I'm killing it. I Love deer hunting too much to let some dam farm deer infect the local deer population with God knows what. Most logical GW's would have recommended dispatching the animal I expect or hope so anyway.

I'm sure the escape was all the owners fault because we all know no ACT of GOD storm would knock a tree down on a fence. Or some drunk run thru it and knock it down.
some of ya'll ever look at what you typed BEFORE hitting submit button????

I could give two schits how much money a deer farmer has in his herd. If they get out they need to be killed until they regulate the management to where every animal is tested for diseases. Not just tested for transport.
I'd be willing to bet that if any of ya'lls lease was next to the deer pen in Ohio that was quarantined that you would lower the boom on them too.

I live close to a high fence operation which has whitetail deer, elk , red stag, and a few other deer species. If any of them get out and come to my land a couple of miles away I will invite y'all to a wildgame supper.

So, does that deer qualify for the record book? I know it was raised in a pen, but, he got it through fair chase. Good question Just read on B&C Facebook page that they will not honor this deer for the record book.
Be safe & have fun

Yes we are required to test 100% of our deer. State tests less than 1%.
