I've thought about this many times but today sitting in a stand it really got me thinking. Sometimes you read an article in QDMA or other magazines about GPS tracking of deer on various farms for research. I rememeber reading one 6 months or so back that looked at the home area of a buck and its average distance traveled versus it's longest distance traveled. Every time I read one of these I always wanna see a map (topo or aerial) of the deer's daily plot tracker over a 24 hour period. It would be neat to see things like when it moved, for how long, when it first picked up the scent of a doe during rut to follow her, the terrain it chose, etc. I just think it would be neat to see and study. It would put you in the mind of a deer more than most anything I can think of and that's just dang cool. Has anyone ever seen anything like this published? Are any of you wildlife biologists privy to data like this?

Penn state deer study shows movements over the course of a season. Might check that out. I actually commented about this on another thread earlier today.

It's obvious that bunch of nocturnal bucks need a few blueticks and maybe some walkers to get their butts out of the thickets.

While not a GPS tracking map as mentioned by the OP. I found a series of these on YouTube a while back and saved this one.
There was one with the Biologist narrating and he would establish times of days of the various seasons. It had several scenes of the Buck feeding in feeders and an explanation as why he preferred one feeder over another, even bypassing several to feed from just one.

Found the site.
Its http://www.deerchannel.com/

Just above the Video screen you'll see a tab labeled "Whitetail Journal". Click on that and the various videos menu will appear to the right of the video screen. Enjoy.

Hunt'em hard when they are hard to hunt but never, ever hardly hunt!
