Apparently the kid had never been taught right from wrong. Knowing what he admitted he knew, he basically stole 20 grand from his neighbor. As a parent I would hope my son would make better choices than this. People forget their raising when wood goat season comes in.

I recant my answer. I reread the article and now realize the kid knew it was the neighbors and not just saw it on his game cam. I agree with Fred that the kid should have let the neighbor dart it and return it.

I'm wondering what the loss of property laws are in his state?

It's only 20 grand. Any of you guys had to pay a lawyer lately? Wouldn't be worth a lawsuit after you pay the lawyers. I doubt a lawyer would take a case like this without being paid up front.

I don't see how you can compare a deer to a livestock. There is no cow season. He killed a deer on his property, in season. If he killed someone's cow it would be a totally differnt issue.

He knew it was escaped, he knew it was his neighbors, he knew it was tagged, he knew it was expensive. He knew he was a dbag and wanted to be greedy so he killed the guys deer instead of helping them recover it. It's not a cow but it well may have been a deer someone raised on a bottle with lots of time and money invested and this guy knowingly blasts it for what? If he wanted to kill one of their deer he could have bought a hunt with them.

100% legal IMHO. No different in me knowing a big buck was on your property and he walks over to my property and I shoot him.

Lost in the debate over douchebaggery or not is the kids age. We all did stupid things we shouldn't have when we were young. If he has any outdoors ethics, or develops any, he will one day regret shooting his neighbors "livestock".

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Does the state own game animals or do they not? Was the kid legally able to hunt the area he killed it?

I'm thinking the kid will end up paying the owner,he knew it was his escaped deer and the deer was tagged just like cattle, the kid already admitted he knew it was the escaped deer, now if he would have had no knowledge of it being a tame deer then that's a different story

If you buy it, breed it and keep it in a pen, is it a game animal or livestock?

thumbup He should have kept his mouth and trail cam pics quiet. "High fence buck, heck I didn't know". " Ear tag, what ear tag, I didn't see no ear tag?"

Me either. He should have kept quiet, cause we won't be on the jury.
