How do you deal with them? The Macon Co Game Warden has pretty my ignored me.

I have an private easement through part of my property that allows the landowners of the property behind me to access their land. They race their 4 wheelers up and down the road, fish in my lake, litter, they park on my property and, in the past, driven around on my land and tear up my interior roads. My fences have been cut, No trespassing signs shot up, and leave the roadside gate constantly open.

I have a 30 acre CRP field on the property line. They constantly hunt on the line overlooking my field, and on their side of the line they have 12 year old planted pines and cant see anything.

Turkey season is a nightmare as you can imagine.

Any suggestions?

Call the Sheriff's office. Most of that, including the trespassing, littering, fences cut, etc, can be handled through their office.

I suggest if you catch ONE, you must prosecute immediately. Don't let a single one go, ever. Imagine being a CEO and getting complaints from so many people about trespassing that you couldn't get to them all. You may have to catch them and sign a warrant at the courthouse yourself.

How do you catch them? Hold them at gunpoint? What if they still run? You gonna shoot the guy?

What makes me so mad they know they are doing wrong but just doing it so they can get away with it. Somebody needs to put the fear of God in them.

If you can't figure out how to stop such nonsense then your mind isn't as twisted as mine. grin If the GW can't help you, then figure out how to help yourself.

This is where nice guys finish last.
You may be stuck with the easement but be sure you understand just what it allows. The right to access is just that nothing else.

if you have everything posted properly (adequate number of signs, clearly visible), then i recommend game cameras set up 90 degrees in a couple of locations. i also recommend that the two cameras in each location be of different brands. no way someone can say anything about the camera(s) not working correctly.

for example: have a bushnell camera set up facing from the side and have a primos camera set up to catch the rear of the same location. this way you have two different cameras with two different views of the same perp(s). make sure the date and time of both cameras are synchronized.

when you catch them on camera card, immediately call the local police (sheriff, whatever) and have a summons issued for them. follow through with it and go to the courthouse and fill out the paperwork. yes, it will take up your valuable time.

when you get the court date, prepare ahead and have pictures made from your camera card. nice ones - 8x10 clear and crisp are great. use high pixel on the game camera. also take pictures of the area that is posted to show the judge there is no way someone could get "so and so feet onto my property without seeing a no trespassing violators will be prosecuted sign."

even better if you can also catch them littering on camera. show the officer the litter if it is still on the property. be sure to document with pictures.

i have been through this and the guy i caught asked for an attorney. one day sitting at the courthouse. new court day was issued. another day sitting at the courthouse. lawyer did the man no good. guilty. stay true to prosecuting no matter who you catch. word will get around.

Me and a couple of neighboring landowners had a poaching issue and we worked with FWC to end it and we did. This included nighttime night vision survelliance, physical presence and we even put up signs that said the area was under survelliance with a no poaching sign. I personally chased two poachers for 9 miles until FWC officers took over the chase and arrested the offenders. Together we put an end to it and after 3 years we haven't had a single problem.
You gotta get aggressive and get LEO help. Didn't hurt tgat several county deputy sheriff's hunted on the properties involved. They might still be poaching, but they aren't poaching anywhere near us anymore.

Prosecute, prosecute, prosecute. Let em know you're serious and they'll go away.

I understand the need to prosecute without fail so don't get me wrong. But ... there was an occasion when I inadvertently crossed over the corner of a club's property at the south end of Jacob's mtn. One of the guys (an aldeer member) saw me do it and was gracious enough to let me off with a warning. Believe me I NEVER will do that again.

My point here is; be reasonable in assessing the situation. It may be an innocent guy just trying to get back to his truck

SSS. Sheriff will be of no help in Macon County. We had a problem theft until the owner got someone to live on the property. We on the other hand have had good luck with the game warden.

Can a landowner hold a trespasser with a gun legally waiting for a GW or deputy?
