those are averages for all bucks in the study. I wonder if the older tagged bucks acted differently that "average" in avoidance.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

With so many factors not taken into account (i.e. doe movement affecting bucks, wind direction, scent control of hunters, bucks getting spooked by hunters, etc.), I wonder what the real-world value is from this study. In an enclosed area with controlled hunter access, I guess it will relate. But in public lands with lots of hunters, I wonder if you can apply a study such as this. Not that the study has no merit, but that a myriad of factors will potentially change the results.

Good info. Most every buck I kill is deflated the first or second sit on a stand. After that is goes downhill in a hurry.

Seems to me that the return rate for this study is probably BEST CASE scenario, and in a public land/club setting with the other variables, the time could be much longer.

Very interesting to me ...
I'm curious as to how it effects all deer including does. Also, I'd like to know is there a difference in the recovery rate between "a hunter was here hunting" and "a hunter shot a gun at or near me and missed" scenarios

Pretty interesting article haha my ole man needs to read this. We got 11 ladder stands and he has used 3 in the last 2 years haha! I like to rifle hunt from the ground, that way I can be in a new spot more often.

Good stuff!
I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Mark Conner speak on his GPS study on the big Dupont test farm he manages. He collared about 12 bucks of various ages. There was limited hunting by customers on the farm. He said the older bucks would be on a bee line right to one of the stands, make a detour just out of sight, get back on course and continue. They're tricky I tell ya!
