This may sound like a stupid question, but I have never carried a gun regularly. Only when hunting or transporting to the range. A couple of recent situations have lead me to go get my CC permit.

Anyway, at work, I am not allowed to carry a gun and will have to leave it in my car. Are there any negative effects of leaving it in an extremely hot or cold car all day?

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Reduces the life of your ammo. I tend to swap out carry ammo once a year or so just to be safe. If you live in a humid environment (aka the south) be sure you keep your gun clean and well lubricated so you don't get rust.

I wouldn't be worried about damaging the gun. I would think about possible theft and I would get a holster for it that was easy to put on and take off with the gun in the holster. A lot of accidents happen, especially with striker fired guns, when holstering or re holstering the gun. All it takes is clothes something to get caught in the trigger guard or hanging the trigger on an edge of the holster.

Get a holster that cover the trigger and hammer (if applicable). I like the leather Galcos myself.

Thanks guys. I have a good holster so that shouldn't be a problem.

I do as NickC says periodically swap my ammo.. Actually when I'm at the range I take the gun I keep in my truck out (Ruger LCP)and fire the rounds in it.. when I get home I clean it and load fresh ammo.

I have one of those little 20 dollar or so safes cabled to my seat that I can leave my gun in when I have to go to the courthouse or somewhere I can't carry. It will at least stop someone from just grabbing it and running off. It is not that secure but it will make it a little harder to get, maybe stop a kid from grabbing it.

Make sure to keep it cleaned & oiled when possible..It don't take but about a Day with our crazy weather for rust to form..

I prefer stainless for a carry gun because if the higher resistance to rust b/c of humidity and sweat. However, I have been carrying a blued gun lately. I may have the slide cerecoated to help prevent wear and rust.

Something else to consider is, if your carry piece has been in a very cold car all day, then you bring it inside, I'd set outside of the holster to prevent moisture from collecting.

As said above, make sure you regularly clean your gun and don't forget the magazines. Makes sure they are clean on the inside and your springs are in good shape. If you pocket carry a revolver, make sure to keep the pocket lint cleaned away from the hammer.

I get a new box of defense ammo once a year. Shoot the old stuff and load the fresh. Write on the inside of the box what gun I loaded it into, serial number, and sign it. Probably unnecessary, but something I just do.

Just don't zip it up in one of those soft cases and leave it.
That will cause it to rust.

My gun is a Cobra with the tactical tan cerakote. The gun itself is alloy, so maybe rust won't be a problem. Anyway, I like to shoot, so old ammo won't be an issue. I don't plan to leave it in my car except during work, so maybe I won't have some of the other issues.

Shouldn't be a problem for that short period of time..I left my s&w stainless 629 4" 44 in a case for about a week in my truck..And when I pulled it out the frame was fine, but the trigger & hammer looked like red clay they were so rusted! slap grin
