You may be debt free but they have no way to assess you as a financial risk without a history of borrowing. I'm OCD about my credit score and I laugh when people say that they'll never own a credit card.

I'm OCD about my credit score and I laugh when people say that they'll never own a credit card. Yep. I take pride in my credit score. I put gas on my card every month just to use the card. An open line of credit can hurt you if you don't use it. Hell that's why I just financed my new ranger.

You can build credit by taking out small loans from the credit union as well.

Laugh at people that won't own a credit card? That is a ridiculous comment. Everything he owns is paid for. If I were in his shoes, I'd be laughing at the folks keeping up with their credit score. I'm no financial expert by any means, but trust me if you have all that already paid for, you can get an excellent loan, on excellent terms, just might not be conventional.
