Have any of Y'all ever seen the Fallows around Miller's Ferry? I have an old video that my MIL took of one there. It was like a 30pt. and had a 2 foot spread.

Since so many folks have moved in around the place I have not seen one in a long time. A friend of ours that is deceased now, Mr H was supposed to be the one that had them imported as the story is told.

I know a guy killed one last year somewhere up around there, just curious if anyone ever see's them anymore.

I killed two fallow bucks in Wilcox in the early 70's. They were already on the decline by then.

Saw one between Rehobeth and Safford in '79 trotting across a soybean field. I remember going into a few old hunting camps in the area and seeing them mounted on the walls along with some HUGE white tails.

There's a few not far from the house. I see them fairly regular.

There have been VERY few spotted since the tornado hit Sand Island. I feel like there are a few around. But, they will soon be all gone.

The tornado was a close call for us, I have not seen many well before that though. We used to see them a good bit before all the places were built on the non slough side of Sand Island.

We used to have a camp at Miller's Ferry and saw them all the time. Have not been back in about ten years so not sure now.

Were you hunting with Lawliss back then? He had 1 mounted from there about that time. He was a good friend that I miss hearing his stories.

They escaped a high fence from my understanding and are breeding. Problem is if they get off a certain few properties they get mowed down.

I kilt the fallow one weekend and the whitetail a couple weeks later in the same little patch of broomsedge about a mile from Miller's Ferry Dam. Can't remember if it was 2 years ago or 3. smile

LOL, try 40. smile

Killed on the Cade place, a mile west of the dam. I killed another fallow the next year a few hundred yards to the north. Also got several more nice whitetails.

That was by far the best deer hunting I've ever experienced. Not only did you see 30-40 deer a day, but there were some really big ones. The fields were double-cropped with wheat and soybeans and all they had to do was eat. I nearly cried when we lost permission to hunt it in 1977.

There were a lot of fallow deer mixed in with the whitetails back then. I saw plenty of fallow does and spikes, but not a big number of racks. I never saw one bigger than the one in the pic, but there were mounts in the stores that were a lot bigger.

Its a shame they are about gone, but they really aren't smart enough to survive without a lot of protection.

I believe it was Baine Henderson that brought fallow deer to the Miller's Ferry area around the 60's.

Preacher, one of the fallows I killed was on the Cade Place, very cool place back then.

the other was just south of Roy Childers place on Roy Bonners place at Dixon Creek. We went in by boat, killed two deer and dang near swamped the boat on the way back to the landing. Had to hurry to get to Bains place at the Bone Swamp for a dog drive.

Mr. Baine told me the story of how they got there but I had forgotten. Saw quite a few while deer hunting on their property. Got my attention a few times before realizing they were fallows. Hendersons were great people and I miss the hunting in that area.

central ala,
The Hendersons got the Fallow deer out of Prattville from Judge C. R. Thomas and from Illinois. This is what Prattville people know now as Deer Trace. In 1925 Bruce and Fred Henderson got 3 fallow deer. In 1931 or 32 about 20 of these deer escaped and multiplied. While in captivity the Henderson were getting 100% reproduction from the fallow deer but only 65% from their cattle. Cattle farmers today would freak on 65%.

I have seen a few in Millers Ferry but it was back in the early 80's when I was a teenager.

Preacher that's impressive. Thanks for putting that up! My MIL killed a pretty good one in Bone swamp. Of not by some of yalls standards.

I know I would like to put deer drive on there.
