I hunted Bankhead this morning and went waaaay back on a point overlooking huge bottom. I carried a dove stool, and was perched about 60' above the bottom looking down into it. At 9:50am I decided to pack up and leave. While putting my stuff in my pack I got blowed at by a big deer - couldn't tell what it was, but it had a big body. Five more minutes seated and I'd have at least known what it was. I guess for the sake of this report I'm going to go with monster buck.

This seems to be the story of my season thus far........

I know the feeling. Been there and done that before. I saw rack when mine left out. I only needed about one more minute.

This is just MY experience, but it may make you feel better......most of the time big mature deer won't blow when spooked. In my experience, when they are spooked/ surprised they will get the heck out of dodge with no finesse involved, I mean running over small trees to get away. If not spooked and they wind you, you probably will never know. I believe they won't blow and give themselves away. That's just my .02

Big buck will usally blow only once, if at all, then get the hell out of dodge. Maybe next time.

This one blew 4-5 times. Guess it was a dink!

Been there done that. I was hunting a clear cut a couple years ago that I knew a big deer was using. The hunger got to me bout 945. I had told myself I wanted to sit till ten. At 950 I got out of the shooting house. As soon as my boots hit the ground and I turned around to see a big rack running through the clear cut. If i had sit the 5 other minutes to 10 o'clock I would have killed him. Live and learn I guess.

Had 9 does in range today with the bow was hoping a biggun step out. They all walked down the road and one came out behind them. And walked right by me. She got to 25 yards behind some trees and wind must have swirled. She blew 20 times. Scared me to death. If she would have given me a shot I would have shot her educated behind. Never ran off. Fed till dark. Three more came out within 5 minutes of her blowing. Pretty neat.

Had this happen to me when my bow had just touched the ground with bow rope attached. Had a doe walking the edge of a cutover. She was quiet and I never heard her but saw her. She busted me trying to get my bow back up. Blew out like an old tire.

Climbed down out of my shooting house at dark and heard several walking in the thicket beside the field. I say several but not sure but it sounded like a horse coming through these thick briars and small pines.
