I've seen it a couple of times over the years. Buddy of mine from La watched four black cur dogs about 35-40# each drag down a healthy two year old eight point on my place a few years ago. He shot the deer and two of the dogs. I got the other two a week later.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

If your going to own a dog, keep it on your property, or don't have one. Most people never even pet their yard dogs. All they do is feed and water them, maybe pat their head one time, and back into the house. That same dog meets up with 2-3 others and they make their rounds everyday. I repeat, everyday. All the owner see's, is the dog lying around, being lazy. Little do they know, that they've covered 3-4 miles that day. We used to have stray dogs run deer a lot, not sure what happened.

One of our neighbors took dogs in from the pound and let them roam. He had 13 at one time. All big dogs. They started pack hunting and I told him about it. He didn't put them up. I found 8 of them circling one of ours cows that was calving once. His dogs came up missing.

I've never and will never shoot a collard dog on our place unless it turns it's teeth up at me. Years ago before the coyotes killed them all we had a bad problem with feral dogs. It seems our place was a common dumping ground for unwanted puppies by our ghetto neighbors. They roamed in packs and would take down a healthy buck with no problem. Several witnessed this but i only saw the aftermath of the kill.
This one afternoon hunt in late January I had the place to myself. It was during the rut so I went deep into the swamp to get a chance at a nice buck I had been hunting since October. As I approached my stand I put out a scent pad and covered it in doe in heat. No less than five minutes later before I could even get in the stand good these three wild dogs ran straight to the scent pad and the alpha dog started to fight the other two. This distraction gave me the opportunity to bolt one in chamber of my 7 mag. They were less than thirty yards away and I was about twenty feet above them. The alpha dog got it first to the head while one took off running only to stop at fifty yards to see what was going on. It got it next. The third dog never checked up and I hit him in front shoulder on the run at about a hundred yards. My finest shooting ever! I don't know what made me the maddest. Was that they messed up my hunting or that I had to go and pick them nasty things up and dispose of them. At one time they were as bad if not worse than coyotes.

and to think, I thought shooters was the only person who didn't like dogs on his property Big difference in Feral dogs and someone's pet with a collar.

and to think, I thought shooters was the only person who didn't like dogs on his property Big difference in Feral dogs and someone's pet with a collar. Not starting this whole subject again... but where did the OP say these were positively ID'd as feral? I have managed several HIGH END properties that had groups of sub-division/neighborhood dogs that packed up and roamed and killed various types of animals from game animals to livestock. Domestic dogs have a whole different demeanor and pack type mentality than wild canines. They have a completely different social structure. Both feral and neighborhood dogs cause problems. Collared pets are different, I agree but the owner has sole responsibility to keep their pet on their own property. The same one comes by enough, I take it home and ensure the owner understands that is last time I bring it home. Plenty of shelters around...

I was referring to Fur's post, guess I should have made that more clearer. I guess thats why me and my family owns our little farm so I can keep my dogs loose and stay on our property.
