Better narrow that down to some, Not all. I know a ton of officers very personally and I don't know any of them that would have handled this situation like that. This guy was an idiot that doesn't need to be doing the job, but please don't throw all of us in the same hat just because of him. I've never mistreated one person on the job.

And that's what he deserves. He doesn't need to be a cop. Guys like him really tick me off because they're the ones that get all of us thrown in to that "all cops are bad" bs.

A guy his size should never have to use pepper spray on someone that small. I bet he could have solved it with words, but he probably isn't very good at that.

This cop's an idot.

Assault & battery, plain & simple. This guy doesn't have the temperament for the job. The ski mask tells me that he's trying to convey exactly what the kid says took place, he's one bad motorscooter and will do you up right if you cross him. He wasn't trying to maintain safety, he was showing what he's made of.

Now he can do it in a shopping mall wearing a Pinkerton uniform.

I talked to someone that was there. He said the kid was being a jackass. The only problem I really have is the pepper spray. If they told the kids not to block the safety area then as soon as one purposely did it they should have removed him from the stadium. No need for pushing and shoving just take him by the arm and escort him out. If they had done that then the cop would not have looked as bad as he did in the video and wouldn't be dealing with all this crap. By lowering himself to the level of a teenager he made himself look foolish. IMO.

This requires a 20-man detail at a High School football game:

"The confrontation began when two Phenix City police officers asked several Prattville students to step away from the railing in the stands where people aren't allowed to stand. Smith said his officers believed the students would try to rush the field after Prattville won as he was told they did when they beat Baker High the week before in Mobile, Ala. An altercation happened between fans on the field after that game, Smith said."

Not gonna tolerate any of that "rushing the field-celebrating stuff". I suppose the kid was lucky the cop didn't shoot him.
I don't care what the kid said or where he was standing, the video looks like the cop assaulted him. When he broke out the pepper spray it was battery.

I got hosed down with the stuff once in a pub in Chicago back in my Navy days, a couple of the guys were getting rowdy and making a lot of noise and when the cops came in they announced they were "kicking ass & taking names". I would have loved to have met them another time & place, but they established control and cleared the place in minutes, they really seemed to enjoy themselves. I've had worse butt-kickings, but probably not one I resented more.
The badge attracts the wrong kind of personality sometimes, and occasionally they weed themselves out.

I wish all were like you. Also , if more god cops would inform and help weed out the bad ones it would go a long way towards cleaning up the professions image. I think the thin blue line issue is one of the biggest enablers for bad cops.

I will be the first to call an officer out for doing the wrong thing. I take my job very seriously and I try to make a positive difference in every persons I encounter, even hardcore dirtbags. I think some guys let things get to their head and it affects the way they handle situations. I could be working in a hospital making more money, but I picked being a cop because I honestly do want to help make my community better. I wish everyone in this profession would remember what we are ultimately there for; and that's to make our community safe for all the good folks. Unfortunately some guys don't take that part as seriously. They're probably the same ones that act like people they arrest when they're off work. It really bothers me when people say all of us are the same nowadays or " law enforcement has become this". That's not true. Things have been happening for years but now we have social media and every cell phone has a camera so things hit the internet as soon as they happen. If you pull the stats of all officers in America it's right around 1% that are bad, or make a bad choice on the job. That ain't that bad IMO. Other professions don't catch near as much heck when they mess up. Just like doctors that hand out scripts to pull heads knowing they truly don't need them just so they'll make an extra dollar. It is what it is I suppose, but I'll keep strapping it on and trying to make my community better no matter how bad society talks about the profession that I love.
