That I will have to sit the gun opener out. I have 9 6th grade girls holding my house hostage for the weekend as a part of our church youth weekend. Had planned to sit all day tomorrow but instead I am playing house dad by teaching bible lessons, fixing snacks, cooking breakfast, and taking them out to serve a few elderly widows lunch tomorrow. I am, however, getting points in the man bank to cash out for a full week in the woods starting monday. If I live through the weekend. Pray for me guys.....

Your kids are only with you for a short while, then they're grown and gone. Even though it seems like you are missing out this weekend, you are doing something much more important! We need to all be good parents/grandparents whenever we get the opportunity.

Same for me...just boarded a plane headed home after 2 weeks of out of town work..first time since I was 10 that I'm not in the woods with my dad on rifle opener...

That will be more rewarding than being in a stand. I never missed an opening day from age 8 to probably 23 or so. For the last 4-5 years my weekend shift at work has fell on opening day.

Update: lights out was at 1am this mornin. My wife had to go upstairs twice around 3am to threaten lives. Lol.
Woke up after a short nap to cook breakfast at 6am. Got'em fed and we took lunch to a few widows and they did a little house work while I did some handyman work around the widows homes. Sitting outside Yogurt Mountian waiting for it to open while we finish up bible study.

You have your priorities straight.

I missed the opener also. My daughter had her tonsils removed and I have to work today at the office. I will be taking next week off, with the cooler weather approaching. Maybe I will get a chance at a shooter.

Did the same thing a few years ago but it was 9th grade girls. I pretty much retired to the back of the house but when we woke up Sunday morning all the lights were out.

Turns out every girl brought a blow dryer AND and curling iron and when they plugged them all in at the same time, it blew the main breaker. Good times.

I missed the opener too. My club is so far and I have to work next week that I decided not to make the 5 hour drive. I went fishing on the Causeway yesterday. Should of just stayed at home. I suspect the hunting wasn't great either, so I dont think I missed much, but I will have something close by to hunt next year.
