I'm looking at investing in a cold weather base layer and wondered if anyone has experiences with both of these. Thanks in advance for any info.

Just got the Minus 33 expedition weight kobuk pullover. Thing is AWESOME! I wore it in Wisconsin and Minnesota a couple weeks ago and never even started to get cold. Best base layer I've had by far.

I've got under armour stuff. I think it's cheaper than the 4.0 stuff but still very warm.

I was going to ask this also..if there was any alternative to under armour cold gear. I have a few if their shirts I wear as normal clothes as a base layer. I'd really like to have some hunting clothes made of the same stuff, but I hate the price. I don't think anybody agrees with how much that stuff costs.

I have found that clothing made with the same materials is not as warm or not as good though. I'm not sure what they do but it works. Nike Pro Combat compares favorably, but it costs just as much.

I love merino wool. You can't wear that stuff out.All of my work socks are merino wool.I work in the cold and quite often get wet feet too.My feet never get cold.

I bought First Lite brand. I've bought some on their website and some from other sites. Basically, the cheapest place you can find it.

4.0 will roast most folks unless you are stationary, 2.0 is about right for me. All UA runs small and tight.
Smartwool 250 is a great 100% merino wool product that works great, problem is it is pricey and finding it in stock. It is the most comfortable I have found and wears well after 5 years.

First Lite Wool and when you buy it find some of the online sites that sell it and send them an email asking if they have any discounts. They should give you a code with an additional 10% off.

Merino wool is great as a base layer, but spendy!

I also like wool outerwear really well, except that it's heavy.
