Dang. Being that young and lost must have scared y'all pretty bad. It's a good thing it was during warm weather.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Got turned around one time with my step mother on a horse ride through talladega NF. Found that a saddle blanket can keep you warm. I was young and knew we were lost but she made it sound like a last minute camping trip. Slept till first light rode out just in time to find my dad and a close family friend, who is also a very prominent Dr. in Birmingham loading up in that Dr.'s full sized hummer to come out to find us. Learned a lot that night.

I also know that feeling.
Got turned around hunting Tree Rats in a light drizzle in a River swamp.
Walked for about an hour towards what I just knew was the River that I thought I was only a couple hundred yards from. I could hear the boats running back n forth but somehow I never could find that blasted river!! Finally after about 3 hours of stumbling around in the wet swamp in the dark the rain picked up I crawled up inside an old Cypress Tree. I had a can of Viennas and mini bag of m&ms. I had a lighter but everything was soaked. Spent the night there, a looooooong night there surrounded by Elephants, lions, Bears and the occasional T-Rex. I left out at first light and was only about 200 feet from the River and around 100 yards from my boat. I'll never go camping/hunting on the River alone again.
Hunt'em hard when they are hard to hunt but never, ever hardly hunt!

Yep, bout 25 years ago, 2 buddies and myself went tree rat hunting in Bankhead. Worked our way out a couple 3 hours and then started coming back. We didn't realize that one of the creeks we crossed had forked and we took the fork. That added at least 2 hours to our hunt. Don't know if we were lost...and I guess its a good thing that 2 of us decided to STOP, and THINK. The other was almost to panic mode and was wanting to push...the wrong way (he was POSITIVE he was right). We walked out right at dark on a hunt that wasn't supposed to last that lone.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.
