back years ago when deer hunting with dogs was still legal in Marion County. The dog hunters would race dangerously up and down our road, backing over mailboxes and shooting across people's yards. I thought that hunting would be better when dogs were outlawed.

Little did I realize that the deer I was shooting from time to time in our backwoods were very often bumped into movement by those very dogs running every which a way.

Now that there are no dogs, the deer have no incentive to move in daylight hours. Deer no longer wander around a patch of woods. They just have no curiosity about their surroundings in daylight, choosing instead to bed down in a thick, inaccessible briar patch.

I can't believe I would say this, but with the season just one week away I'm kind of nostalgic for the days when there would be some deer movement throughout the woods on both sides of our road.

Your logic has almost zero merit. Deer move to feed. Deer move due to other reasons. Deer don't stop moving in daylight hours and go 100% nocturnal because dog hunting no longer takes place.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Deer have to eat every few hours, they don't just bed down. You just are not hunting in the right places.

I miss having a dog club next to property I hunted. We killed several bucks off dogs crossing our property and it would brake up the monotony at times.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I would give anything to be able to hunt one weekend in peace without the trash beside us running their dogs all over our place every damn weekend.

Vernon I understand where you're coming from. We had a group of people that we're illegally hunting a big area of land that bordered ours. We listened to them on radios and they finally got caught. Even though I'm glad they got caught and are no longer doing it they pushed deer on us many times coming in and out that we would have never seen other wise.

When I was young we hunted deer with dogs. The first deer I ever killed was in front of dogs. Its some of the best and most enjoyable hunting you can do. Hard to beat hearing a hound or beagle let off and you can hear them coming towards you and just waiting fro them to come by you. Brings back some good memories.

I enjoy watching deer as they naturally occur, not running full speed trying to get away from a beagle and 7 men lined up along the highway.

People that hunt with dogs are trash now? Funny how the demographics have changed. Now hunters are harvesters

In other parts of the world (and in a time here) it is very aristocratic to pursue game with the help of hounds.

To each his on but to me dog hunting would be the best way to get kids started deer hunting.think about it kids just don't like to stay still or quite for very long and loose attention span pretty quick unless you load them down with all the gadget's there are today.then there not paying attention to the woods the parents are doing all the watching for deer. But dog hunting is none stop action.they don't have to be perfectly still or quite they can talk to there buddies on cb Walkie talkie to see which way the deer is headed they get to move to different spots so on.and the deer is going to be moving someone will get a deer.I'm speaking from experience from me begging my dad to let me tag along on the dog hunts years ago to taking my children now to find them getting board just setting and waiting. Like I said everyone has there on opinion to dog hunting and all will never agree but I wish we could still run dogs

I learned the woods dog hunting when I was young while tagging along with relatives. I remember the people we used to hunt with as good ,respectable people. Over the past 20 years, we haven't had any dog hunters around our club so I can't share any personal experience as an adult. However, I know of a few that have had nothing but problems with dog hunters. These folks are good people who were repeatedly threatened by the dog hunters and even had their camp burnt down. These aren't the type of people that I grew up hunting with. I don't know what changed but I guess people got tired of the BS and decided to do something about it.

It's taken a few years, but I've concluded Vernon Tull is the most sophisticated and cunning fisherman to ever log on to ALDEER... laugh

Deer very seldom run full speed from beagles, now Walkers or Red bones yes. You obviously have never dog hunted. When done right 75% of your bucks are killed trying to slip out.

You cant take crap from the dog hunters. If they run dogs on your land just take care of it. Bullets are cheap. Its not very hard to hit a running dog. If they burn something of yours then get revenge! thumbup
