I just read that US Steel sold about 70,000 acres in Jefferson, Walker, Shelby, Bibb, and Tuscaloosa counties to Valley Creek Land and Timber. The hunting leases will be handled by Claw Forestry Services, LLC. They didn't give a number or contact info.

Thats true. Most of that land is leased up and has been for the last 5 years. What is available has been mistreated and nobody wants it

Yep. They actually sold 180,000 I believe. The rest went to Molpus Timberland Mgmt.

Claw has a guy based in Hoover. Molpus has an office there as well.

I emailed the guy yesterday and got a map of where they have leases available. I'm very seriously considering getting a lease for next year for a trophy-only area. They have some in the Woodstock and West Blocton area, between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, if anybody might be interested.

I'd be interested in a lease close to Tuscaloosa County for sure. I emailed him also to see what was available. If anyone else is considering and may want to go in on a lease I'd be open to it also.

Claw is fairly new to the game here in this part of Alabama but we have been cutting timber on Molpus (US Steel land) for years. Mainly in Jefferson/Walker/north Tuscaloosa. Most all their land consists of pine plantation ridge tops with hardwood drains that can be pretty steep. Most of their tracts do have good gates & road systems though thanks to the gas well access.

You are right. Mostly pines and steep bluffs and every ridge top has a gravel highway with a gas well at the end.
