Stealing from my home or truck COULD cause someone to get shot. Cheating in a bass tourney, I'd never seriously think of it.
I'll agree to disagree.

Why? How does it affect you? Is it just to feed your curiosity to gain some sense of pleasure through someone else's misery?

Guilty or innocent, sincere or insincere, that is on him. It's up to God to judge his heart. Unless we have a personal steak in his situation I'm sure the rest of us have enough other things to worry about than to put much effort into seeing him hung for his crime.

Apples to Oranges if you say, but to me it's no different then someone breaking into my truck and taking cash money out of the glove box while its parked at a boat ramp. I'm sure most of us on here have done things we aren't proud of.( This seams to be the justification factor) Some of us have come clean about those things, some have brushed them away in a closet, but does that make what this guy did right? No.

This likely wasn't the first time they cheated in a tourney, just the first time they got caught.

I hope he is sincere. I hope that if he is sincere that he seeks the help that he's gonna need. It's not gonna be an easy ride, that's for sure.

So breaking and entering along with theft are the same in your eyes? Not mine! Not even close! I'll buy in saying, if I laid X amount of money on the boat ramp and he took it, and wouldn't own up to it until he was proved wrong. That sounds better to me, and I'd probably end up in trouble myself after my actions towards him. But not breaking in my vehicle or home. That's just two totally different levels there.

I doubt anyone would have registered if they were told at the ramp a team already had it in the box... Literally!

I may have missed it, but I didn't see anyone say anything about "just an entry fee". Im sue all the things you added up are only used in "fly by night" tournaments. I'm in no way saying what he did is anywhere close to okay. But for people to be like "well he deserves it" when it comes to losing family and his career over a stupid fish, wow! I thought deer hunters were ridiculous.

WOW! Guy trys to apologize and some of you really kick him while he is down. Some compare it to breaking and entering??? The guy said he was sorry. Does anyone know whats in his heart? Are you GOD? Who on ALDEER has not stole something at one time or another??? Ever ate a grape in a grocery store? Ever took more than one sample? Ever lied about how much you payed on a car or truck when buying tags? Stealing is stealing, but we have ALL done it in some form or other at some point in ower lives. I save forgive and move on! thumbup

ROB, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU RESPOND TO THIS SUGGESTION:

You don't owe me an apology or my forgiveness. Wouldn't know you if I saw you.

One way to show your sincerity is to make it a mission in the near future to pay back the folks that got screwed. Contact the folks that run the tournaments you were involved in and get tournament results. The way I see it if someone would have placed or placed higher, or won big fish, etc and you affected it, you owe those folks some money to get them where they should have been.

THAT would show sincerity and put you back in good favor with some folks. Depending on how long it went on, it could be a lot of work, but would prove sincerity much more than "I am sorry I got caught over $24". AFTER ALL IT REALLY WONT COST YOU ANYTHING BUT TIME TO DO IT, SINCE THE PRIZE MONEY ISN'T YOURS ANYWAY.

The folks that weren't close to placing, wouldn't have been close anyway, so I don't think you owe them anything but an apology. If you are willing to say the words but not let go of the money, that will say a lot about your sincerity.

If it is not financially possibly at this time, it will be possible in the future at some point, and actions speak louder than words.

I haven't read all of the posts so this may already be mentioned somewhere.

To me a thief is a thief, Whether it's money in a tournament or etc. It takes the same thought process in that persons mind at the particular moment.

With that said, It doesn't bother me if we agree or not on the semantics. I will say that it is not as severe thievery as breaking into someones house, but it is thievery none the less.

I hope that everything he has posted is truly on his be-half and not his lawyers puppetry.

I discovered a long time ago that in order for someone to get "better", They need to truly WANT to be "better". It doesn't matter in the end how many times you hope for them to get better, or try to help them get better, It's all on their own time of their true WANT.

I doubt I've ever crossed paths with Rob. Everyone on this site is welcome to pm me if they ever think they need my help, That includes Rob.

If he is sincere, He is definitely making the proper first steps & for that- I hope the best for him on his journey of righting his wrong. beers

The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.
