I'm looking at buying this model truck with around 100K miles. Anyone have one with the 5.3 engine? My only complaint is it has a 2" lift with BFG all terrain tires. Thing rides like a tank, but I'm thinking I could take the lift off and put on a new set of shocks. Anyone have an opinion on this model truck?

I just bought one with 115k miles last week. That 5.3 is a good engine imo, I had a 2004 a few years back with over 200k and it ran great. The only thing I know of in those trucks is the instrument cluster is prone to go out on them and if it has the 6 disk cd player chances are it will go haywire one of these days. But like I said, I think they are great trucks and I am proud to have mine.

10-4, If I buy this one my plan is to put another 100k on it. I hope it will hold up. I'm not ruff on a truck and I've heard of these trucks/engines going over 200K with very little issues. I just can't bring myself to buy a new one.

I have an 06 sierra right now with 223k miles. Only issues to date is hub bearings, radiator 7,000 miles ago, torque converter at 190k and I went ahead and rebuilt the cluster because I do it for a living part time. As for yours riding like a tank. I doubt it has a lift. More than likely some dipshit cranked the torsion bars up.

I was told bottom line was $13,300. I know the history of the truck and the original owner bought it new and had no problems. Do you have any suggestions on getting a smoother ride. This truck sits higher than normal and I think it has some kind of lift. I'm kind of ignorant about lifted trucks(never had one). I just want a smoother ride. The steering is tight and pops a little. Any suggestions or things I should be looking for?

My 2wd 2000 had 265k when I totaled it last year. Ran great and had very little problems since it was new.

Transmission needed a rebuild at 170k and at least half of those miles were towing a boat.
Alternator went around 190k.
Fuel pump went out at 250k and I think it was actually the harness connection, not the pump but I didn't figure this out until I had already put a pump in it.
Changed the original brake pads around 160k. When I wrecked it, it still had the original rotors and second set of pads.
Put a door lock actuator on it somewhere along the way.
All steering and suspension parts were original including the shocks and it still drove great.

For 13 years of use, that's nothing when it comes to vehicle maintenance.

The original owner traded this truck to a dealership and another guy bought it for his kid. Apparently the kid put a new set of BFG tires, lifted it, and told his daddy he wanted a jeep after 3-4 months. Dealership got it back and its just been sitting or the service dept has been using it as a loaner.

The steering issue is the upper intermediate shaft. $60 fix
Make sure transfer case is slam full of blue fluid.
Is it crew cab? Leather? Options?

I thought it was a fair price, but the dang lift and "yeti sticker" have got to go. It's an SLE, Cloth, Extended Cab(not crew cab). Looks good inside and out.

That yeti sticker adds to the price.

I got a 99 z71 5.3 with 221k. I've replaced fuel pump, alternator, and water pump. To me it drives better than my dads 08. Id leave for Alaska tomorrow in it.

My grandfathers 04 Z71 eats unit bearings like candy. I think that has a lot to do with the truck being abused all through hunting season every year.

Not apples for apples on comparison but........ A good friend of mine sold his truck that is a twin to mine this past Monday for $17k
2006 crew cab sierra, leather, every available option except sun/moon roof. 96,000 miles. You seriously couldn't find one single flaw on this truck. I thought it was worth $16,000 tops. But I guess with today's high truck prices, i shouldn't have been surprised.

How so? I'd like to here the negatives myself.

06 GMC Z71 is exactly what i drive. I bought it new and it now has a little over 102,000 miles. The only thing (knock on wood) i have ever had to do to it was replace front left wheel bearing.

I've got an 07 classic which is the same as an 06, just manufactured after the 6th month in 06. I just changed this same hub bearing. I've got 148,000 on it and plan on another 148,000.

If its a crew cab that's a good price. Steering issue may be the intermediate shaft. I thought the 2006s had the upgraded shaft but if not is a $100 part and a 45 minute job. Be sure the transfer case is not leaking from a small hole about midway up on the passenger side. Check any codes if engine light is on. If it has dual climate control be sure it works properly especially the blower. Gauges are an easy fix you may have to send off if no one local does it.
