How well do they do in the woods? Not super thick stuff but no real trails to speak of either. Got to find a better way to get the hogs back to the boat.

Get you a good back pack. Quarter them up and pack them out.

A guy at our club started using one of the plastic snow sleds after seeing his guide use one on a mule deer hunt out west. Of course, it might be more trouble than it's worth if the ground is bumpy with rocks and roots.

Where i hunt (Redstone Arsenal) game carts are a must have. Buy one with the biggest wheels you can find, but not necessarily the widest. And don't buy the cheapest one out there either - you get what you pay for. Keep ratchet straps on it when in the field too.

With a deer I would but hogs are a pain in the butt to quarter in the field.

Mine goes in the bed of my truck on 10-15 and comes out 2-1... I hunt alone a lot and have asthma. To me they are well worth having.

On the ones I've killed the skin seems to be tighter I guess is the word. You can't just get them started and pull the skin down like a deer

Are there particular game carts that y'all recommend? At one of my leases, I've used a cheap one that one of the other members left for anyone's use and can drive close to most of the areas as needed. With my new lease, I won't be able to drive as close and have chosen to not get a 4wheeler or UTV for now. Our roads are good, and I can get fairly close but have considered getting a game cart to help get a deer out to the main roads.

Laying on the ground may be different. I've only cleaned them hanging up like a deer. When hanging, I can skin a hog faster than a deer.

I only have a limited space to hunt. Leaving remains there I'm afraid would blow the spot. I know people will tell you go back and you can kill one standing in the guts, but it doesn't work for me. Everytime I've left remains, that spot was done for the season.

If it's that small, then it shouldn't be a far drag. wink

Daniel, Explain please. I won't even field dress one in a honey hole. What are you guys doing with the ribs, stomach, and intestines?

I was just picking. laugh but I have gutted a ton of deer in the woods and go back to same place and see deer. I have also killed deer around the "bone pile" at camp. If you don't want no innards or bone where you hunt, then do what suits you best. thumbup

Hmm maybe I need more practice with hogs. I've cleaned several hundred deer and I can have one quartered up in no time but the 4 hogs took me about an hour -hour and a half to skin and quarter.Trying to be careful and not get pig aids was a big concern.

Try making 2-3" strips long ways with a gut hook. Then take a pair of pliers and grab it at the top and it'll peal right off. This may not speed things up for you, but it did for me.

go for aluminum because if your like me you will spend more time hauling the cart in and out of your car than you will acually using it.

I hunt Wheeler refuge and I've used a red radio flyer wagon for years. Easy Cheap and gets the job done I attach it to my Mtn. Bike with an extension rod on it with a swivel.

The next time you have a deer in a little red wagon, hooked to your huffy, please take a picture for reference. smile

If you get a pack, get a frame pack and not a backpack. I've seen a guy using a wheelbarrow for elk, maybe try that. You can haul a lot of corn too.

Get a Versa Cart like the one below. V shaped bed keeps the deer centered.

I built my own using rigid conduit (welded) & a set of wheels off a high wheel push mower. The only disadvantage is it won't fold up like a store bought & takes up more bed space in the truck. It really makes getting a deer out of the woods MUCH easier even with 2 people.
