Ain't never figured out people getting jealous over a deer. I've been lucky enough to take one or two good deer where I hunt. A neighbor friend gets tore up whenever I kill one. I've helped him scout his place and hung stands for him that he never hunted. I show him every deer pic I get, cause we hunt the same deer. I showed him some pics of bucks last week hoping he had pics were maybe he would kill one. Found out tonite he had pics of them and got pissed that I knew they was around. What makes people like that? I ain't mad but damn. It ain't no competition. I've tried my best to get him on one. I ain't no expert by no means but it ain't my fault he can't kill a deer. Over a pine goat? Lol, never understood that. Plenty of deer for everybody out there, lol. It's like out of stater tourons headed to the beach here. They drive fast as hell through my little hometown pissing off the locals, I guess cuz they think the beach is running away from them. Some folks just got a bad case of they 'tards.

I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

I'll chime in. A good friend of mine joined a club once. He was fairly new to hunting and was really gung-ho about scouting and doing his homework. Read alot about how to kill a big deer. Well he got invited to join an old established club on about 2500 acres east of Montgomery in some prime hunting area. The guys were older and mainly enjoyed sitting around the camp, drinking beer, smoking cigars, hunting close to camp for a couple of hours and calling it a day. They hadn't killed a mounter deer in about 5 years on this club in the heart of black belt. Well my buddy gets after it. Finds some hot spots that no one has hunted in a long time. Hung a climber and kills an 8 point with a 20 inch spread the first morning he hunts it. Guys are pissed! Well, he gets kinda shunned that night at the campfire so he just says to hell with it and goes to bed. He gets up the next morning and hunts another climber on another area and kills a helluva nice 10 point the next morning. The other members went nuts! I mean completely psycho! Cussing him for filth. It was bad...really bad. Anyway, a few weeks later, he went back to hunt and killed ANOTHER great deer and that was it. They told him to pack his crap and he wasn't welcome back next year. He was fine with it. He killed 2 mounters and another buck he put on a plaque and called it a year. We did go back that spring and we both killed 2 gobblers on the place. We left the breast feathers in the cabin door jam for 'em! I also know a guy that has been kicked out of club for killing 3 gobblers in one season off a place when no one else could kill one. Was told he killed too many turkeys. Really??? But I'll leave that one alone. Having said all this, nothing tops folks in MS/AR on public water hunting ducks. There have been many an ass whooping over a freaking mallard. Stupid folks out there.

Several years ago, my brother would invite his BIL to hunt our place. This guy only got to hunt maybe once a year, and he really wanted to put some meat in his freezer. So, being the nice guy that I am, I sent him to my honey hole. Keep in mind, I was the king of this place, most deer, several really good bucks. Anyway, I hear him shoot. After the hunt, I come walking back to our camp, and there is the biggest buck ever taken on our little piece of land! BIG 9 ! He's grinning ear to ear.
Was I jealous of that deer? Damn right I was! Was I jealous that he killed it? Hell no! It did make me sick when we took the deer to the processor and he tells the guy to cut the horns off! The processor looked at him, then looked at me and about couldn't make himself do it! I'm not talking about cutting the base of the skull, I'm talking about each individual antler!

What was he supposed to do? Have a shoulder mount done? Some guys don't do that or care about that at all. Good for him for enjoying the hunt, though.

You are probably right about the jealousy factor most times, but have you looked a little deeper into the other party's perspective? What I mean is how did they view what you did, versus how you view what you did?
I made a fool of myself one time about 10-11 years ago, and to this day the other folks involved would tell you I was jealous, but that wasn't what it was (sincerely). Me and two other boys leased a 770 acre tract for two seasons, and it was VERY expensive. Truth is we should've never stepped out like that. We were paying roughly $3,000 apiece just to lease the land, then we still had all the extra costs of having the fields limed, buying fertilizer/seed, tractor fuel, and so forth. At that time none of the three of us could truly afford that, it was a serious weight on my conscience, I couldn't enjoy it. Well, we had a "no guest" rule, but one of the guys hunted with his adult wife EVERY time. Which would've been fine if they sat together, but he would place her in one of our good spots, and go somewhere else himself. In my eyes that was a 4th full-time adult member, they should've paid TWO memberships. Furthermore, his wife would shoot any small buck she saw, and we had a "mature mounter only" rule, even if it was just a gentlemen's agreement. The 2nd season we opted to get a 4th guy (a cousin of the guy who's wife hunted). This 4th guy NEVER showed up one single time for a work day, NEVER came scouting a single time, nothing. The first day of gun season that year we had the most awesome cutover ever with a shooting house on it, but had the totally wrong wind to hunt it, so I played it safe and didn't go there. A few mins after daylight I heard shooting from that area, only to find out this 4th guy had showed up and went to that shooting house, and shot 3 racked bucks running together. I lost my temper and ruined a couple of friendships that day. In the end I can look back now and realize that I took all of that more seriously than they did. They thought I was hacked off that someone killed a deer and I didn't, but from my perspective that's not at all what it was. I was in too deep anyway, too emotionally strained over the money and how much work I put in, and how little they put in. But to this day, I guarantee you they'd say I was "jealous" of them killing deer (even though I killed the two biggest bucks that we killed off that land in those two years). I don't think they would have ever had any thought about it if I had been the one doing all that other stuff, but my personality was such that it ate at me continually. Again, it wasn't about the deer kills, we all killed deer off that land and that was fantastic! It still bothers me that they think I was jealous.

I've taken a lot of pleasure telling someone to sit in my climber & where to see a big-un that I just haven't been able to kill, whether they get him or not as long as they see him. Never understood the jealousy thing.

Killbux, did it bother you that he killed 3 racked bucks in one sitting after not pulling his weight during preperation. or did it bother you that he hunted when the wind wasn't right, with a potential of screwing the spot? Not stirring the pot, just asking. In full honesty, both. And I'm willing to admit that I would've probably killed more than one buck as well if I had been there---two of em were grown' uns! I think the worst part was that I had every chance to go there, but chose to do it right and not booger that spot up, yet if I had known someone else was going there I would have gone myself (just to keep someone else off, even though I knew the risk). That guy had the most awesome hunt, and (in my mind that day) had done nothing to earn it. He didn't even have the "fancy hunting expertise" to know it was the wrong wind. I knew where the other two boys were going, and it never crossed my mind that this 4th guy would even show up, I had never even met him before that morning. I mean, I had literally chomped at the bit all week hoping to open gun season from that spot, and was SO disappointed when it became obvious we would have the wrong wind on Saturday. I wanted to be a titty-baby and just quit the whole season after that! LOL...that was so spoiled and silly!

This is why I could never be in a club in the normal sense or at least if I was, I would try not to take it too seriously. Chances are there would be someone in that club that I just didn't like for whatever reason - kind of like you ikillbux, you already didn't like the guy for not pulling his weight in the off season. All of the sudden, he shows up, hunts like an idiot and has the hunt of a lifetime. If that had been someone you truly liked or if you had told them to go hunt there, you probably would have been ecstatic for him. That's why I hunt with a very small group of guys that we all get along great, all pull our weight, have trigger restraint, agree on following the same set of rules and just enjoy hunting and being at the camp...if big deer drop, it's a bonus for everyone, no matter who pulled the trigger.
