back during July 4th, we were camped at Wind Creek and some young fella decided he needed my Yeti more than I did. We have three witnesses against him and we gave him ample opportunity to return it, but of course, he denied taking it. And, it turns out, he's the son of a local deputy sheriff, which sorta thickens the plot.
I know it's just a cooler and some people would just count their losses here and forget it, but dammit, I can't stand a thief. Plus, after all the effort the park ranger (Jared Martin) put towards tracking it down, it would be a shame to just let it go.
And who knows, this may just scare the young man enough that it prevents him from doing things like this in the future and he won't be caught running around knocking on doors trying to con people outta their money.
I'll let y'all know the results of his trial...
Turns out he wasn't the deputy's son, but the deputy's son was in the truck when this kid stole it and decided to roll on him when he was confronted. Judge granted $300 restitution and gave the kid 16 hours community service. The kids mom was there and she will have to pay within 30 days or go to jail. She told the judge that she would get her social security check next week and pay with it. She also made the kid face me in front of everyone and apologize. She told him before he apologized that he "damn well better mean it". I could tell she was a very good person and, not to stereotype, she didn't look like she had the money to buy someone else a Yeti. Hopefully, they both learn something here. I'll pray for them tonight, for sure.

Not telling you what you should do but the only time my Yeti isn't locked down with a cable and padlock is when it's closed up in my garage. Even when we go camping and I take it out of the bed of the truck I find something to lock it too. Glad it worked out for you.

He actually pulled the cooler from under the rv, right beside the steps. It was a 20qt roadie. At the other end of the rv was a 50qt yeti. It was probably too heavy to run with.
